A Disneyland guest dressed up as an Indian princess when she went to the Disney Parks to show Disney what “true representation” looks like.

The Walt Disney Company has been criticized left, right, and center when it comes to the topic of representation. On one hand, some believe that Disney is not doing enough for representation, on the other hand, there are those who believe Disney is “pandering to woke audiences.”

All said and done, we might argue both sides for all eternity, but recently, one fan took matters into her own hands during a Disney Park visit.

Artist-Influencer Ambika Goes to Disneyland as an Indian Princess

Instagram influencer and artist Ambika recently went to the Disneyland Resort dressed as an Indian princess. She wore a beautiful green lehenga with a yellow dupatta to go along with it. Ambika explained, “I went to Disneyland with my mom dressed as a Hindu princess in my beautiful Gopidress. Many people asked me when the new movie of that princess was coming out, and some even confused me with Jasmine.”

One of the main aims of her dressing up as she did was reportedly to experience what it might be like for Disney to have a true representative from the Indian, and particularly, Hindu culture.

You can check out Ambika’s video down below!

She wrote in her caption, “I had a lot of fun, and it was lovely to experience the magic of that place. It’s time for Disney to have its true representative from India, I would watch it right away!”

Fellow fans in the comments were all for the idea and even called to Disney to make it happen sooner rather than later. One commented, “@disneyplus we waiting @disney.”

Another complimented Ambika, “So pretty❤️❤️.”

At the same time, there were those who believed the artist was only doing this for her fifteen minutes of fame. One commenter shared in Hindi, “look at what one has to do to become famous.”

This said, the question of Disney giving fans real representation is not new by any means. Many have called to the Mouse House for better LGBTQ+ representation, better inclusivity for differently sized guests at a theme park, and more.

When it comes to the topic of an Indian Disney princess, however, perhaps, fans will get their wish sooner rather than later. Filmmaker Gurindher Chadha—the director behind Bend It Like Beckham—is working on an Indian-inspired Disney princess film. As Deadline had previously reported, “Disney has commissioned an original musical feature from Bend It Like Beckham filmmaker Gurinder Chadha and Paul Mayeda Berges, inspired by a dynamic princess from Indian history.”

Needless to say, there are hordes of excited fans who will flock to theaters to watch the film (provided it gets a theatrical release)!
