In Disney’s latest list of new projects, they’re facilitating an incredible meeting of minds with the creators of the famous Bend It Like Beckham coming to Disney for a new venture.
It’s always exciting when Disney announces a new project. Since D23 Expo earlier this year, Disney has been announcing new projects left, right, and center. From new original new TV shows to long-awaited sequels to the next installments of fan-favorite franchises, for the last few months, Disney has kept fans busy.

But this new announcement is particularly delightful and will please many Disney fans. Deadline has reported that an Indian princess musical is in the works at Disney, and ‘Bend It Like Beckham’s Gurinder Chadha is going to direct and produce the musical.

Disney has commissioned an original musical feature from Bend It Like Beckham filmmaker Gurinder Chadha and Paul Mayeda Berges, inspired by a dynamic princess from Indian history. Both will write the pic, and Chadha also will direct and produce. The plot remains under wraps, but we hear that the project is under the umbrella of Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production.

As Deadline reported, no plot has been announced yet. Still, Chadha has a portfolio of movies like Bride & Prejudice, a film that marries Jane Austen with Indian and Western musicals – which was the first film ever to open at #1 in the UK and India on the same day; Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, based on the international bestseller which was released worldwide by Paramount in 2008/2009, It’s a Wonderful Afterlife, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival before releasing internationally in 2010, and Viceroy’s House, an epic drama on Indian Independence and Partition. This new musical has all the makings of a new fan favorite.
This news isn’t all that dropped today. Disney also gave us a new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 and Indiana Jones 5. It’s going to be a fun few months for Disney fans.
