‘Indiana Jones’ Genius Passes Away

The editor of ‘The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles,’ Edgar Burcksen has passed away at the age of 76.

Today today, we bring news of the passing of Edgar Burcksen, an editor who lived in Los Angeles and was an award-winning member of the film fraternity.

Unfortunately, today marks the day we announce the passing of the esteemed editor, Edgar Burcksen. Based in the city of Los Angeles, Edgar was a revered and accomplished member of the film community, having garnered recognition as an award-winning editor within the industry. The legacy he leaves behind is one that will forever be cherished by his colleagues and admirers alike.

As reported by Variety, Burcksen was a long-time editor of feature films, documentaries, and TV series. He died on Sunday in Los Angeles of complications from a heart attack at the age of 76.

Burcksen was born in the Netherlands. He began his successful career editing feature films in Amsterdam. After this, he moved to the United States, where he served on the animated production Seabert. He eventually joined Lucasfilm Ltd.’s Industrial Light and Magic, where he was the effects editor on Die Hard 2 and The Hunt for Red October.

These weren’t Burcksen’s only accomplishments. He was a past board member of American Cinema Editors, and a writer, and the editor-in-chief of Cinema Editor Magazine. He also taught Advanced Film Editing at the Academy of Art University of San Francisco.

Burcksen won many awards and was honored with many accomplishments over his lifetime. He won an Emmy for editing the pilot episode of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and an ACE Robert Wise award for the same.

Other credits he’s earned over his lifetime include Left Luggage, Colors Straight Up, Darfur Now, Hollywood Banker, and more.

Edgar Burcksen, in addition to his remarkable contributions to the film industry, also prioritized his physical well-being throughout his life. Known for his dedication to being active and fit, Burcksen was an avid ultramarathon cyclist. His passion for cycling led him to achieve the impressive feat of completing 25 double centuries, showcasing his enduring endurance and commitment to pushing his limits.

Burcksen is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jana, and the two children they raised together.
