Is ‘GMA’ Losing Its Stars? Hosts May Be Out by Summer

Change is no stranger to the world of television news, but the latest developments surrounding Good Morning America (GMA) have left fans and staff alike in a state of uncertainty. Behind the polished smiles and morning routines, ABC is reportedly preparing for another major shake-up that could see current GMA3 hosts DeMarco Morgan and Eva Pilgrim ousted by the end of the summer.

Since the fall from grace of Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes in late 2022, Good Morning America has been anything but stable. Their exit was sparked by a highly publicized affair, which sent shockwaves through the network. Initially suspended, the pair’s fate was sealed when they were officially let go by ABC in January 2023.

The aftermath left the network scrambling to fill their spots on the popular third hour of GMA, known as GMA3: What You Need to Know.

In May 2023, the network introduced DeMarco Morgan and Eva Pilgrim as the new anchors of GMA3. They quickly settled into their roles and managed to steady the ship, keeping the show on track and maintaining solid ratings. However, sources within ABC now suggest that even their tenure might be cut short.

According to a report from the New York Post, ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic is considering another overhaul of the GMA3 team before summer.

Anonymous sources told the outlet that the current hosts, Morgan and Pilgrim, are on the chopping block, and a major shake-up could be in store.

The insider shared:

The clock is ticking on “Good Morning America 3” hosts DeMarco Morgan and Eva Pilgrim as network brass look to shake up the ratings-challenged show, The Post has learned.

ABC News president Almin Karamehmedovic will likely replace the anchors of the third hour of the marquee morning show by the end of the summer, according to a source with direct knowledge.

However, one source speculated that Karamehmedovic will pull the plug on Morgan and Pilgrim, and possibly bring in new anchors or even tap the highly paid trio from the “GMA” mothership: Robin Roberts, Michael Strahan and George Stephanopoulos.

“’GMA3′ won’t be there at the end of the summer,” the insider said, referring to the current hosts.

Could we see Robin Roberts, Michael Strahan, and George Stephanopoulos step into the roles? This idea has been circulating for months, and the New York Post report only added fuel to the fire. Some insiders speculate that Strahan, Roberts, and Stephanopoulos could be tapped for GMA3, either as temporary hosts or as part of a more permanent solution.

Adding to the drama, recent reports have surfaced about significant layoffs at ABC, with nearly 200 employees being let go, many of whom were involved with the morning show. GMA3 was one of the programs hit hardest by the cuts, with ABC now relying on the core Good Morning America team to manage the show’s direction.

In light of these sweeping changes, it’s clear that ABC is trying to shake things up at GMA3 to keep the show relevant and competitive.

The speculation that the network might elevate its most high-profile anchors to this time slot has sparked intrigue, especially since Michael Strahan’s contract with GMA is set to expire later this year.

The big question now is whether the network will continue with the current duo of Pilgrim and Morgan or make room for some of the marquee talent already featured on GMA. While ABC has yet to confirm any decisions about Morgan and Pilgrim’s future, it’s evident that the network is taking a hard look at its morning show line-up, making this an exciting (and uncertain) time for fans.

Despite these changes, GMA3 isn’t the only ABC show undergoing a transformation. The network’s morning news division has been hit hard by both internal shake-ups and broader layoffs, which have sent ripples through the industry. The decision to move forward with fresh faces on GMA3 would be part of a larger restructuring effort aimed at reenergizing the network’s news division.

As fans wait to see what unfolds, we want to know: do you think it’s time for a change at GMA3? Or are you hoping that Pilgrim and Morgan remain in their roles? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
