For the first time on the screen, James Bond is being reintroduced in a much younger form through IO Interactive’s upcoming game 007 First Light, with Irish actor Patrick Gibson leading the cast as a 26-year-old version of the iconic spy still in MI6 training.
Set during Bond's journey as he works towards earning his Double-O status, the third-person action-adventure centers on “James Bond as a young, resourceful, and sometimes reckless recruit in MI6’s training program,” allowing players to “discover an origin story of the world’s most famous spy,” per the official synopsis for the game.

The cast also includes Priyanga Burford as M, Kiera Lester as Miss Moneypenny, Alastair Mackenzie as Q, Lennie James as Greenway, Gemma Chan as Selina Tan, and Lenny Kravitz as Bawma, rounding out a lineup that connects familiar MI6 figures with new characters built around Bond’s early years.
Now, a new look at the project ahead of its May 27, 2026 release has arrived in the form of IO Interactive's “Rules of Spycraft” video, which highlights core mechanics including stealth infiltration, silent takedowns, gadget usage, and intelligence gathering.
It also shows Gibson’s Bond in training, operating under instruction as he learns the fundamentals of fieldcraft inside MI6. Watch the video below:

Upcoming 007 Film Reboot
Alongside the game, Amazon MGM Studios is continuing development on a James Bond film reboot, with Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024) director Denis Villeneuve attached to direct and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the screenplay.
The reboot follows Daniel Craig’s final appearance in No Time to Die (2021), which is the most recent entry to a long-running era that spanned Sean Connery through to Craig across 25 films. The project remains in early development, with no casting currently confirmed.
007 First Light launches May 27, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with a delayed release planned for Nintendo Switch 2.
