A viral poster has many fans hopeful that former Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp will reprise the role. But is it true? We at Disney Fanatic jumped in to investigate the validity of these claims.

At this point, every Disney fan is well versed in the history of the Walt Disney Company (in particular its studios like Walt Disney Pictures) and veteran actor Johnny Depp. When Depp faced accusations of domestic abuse from his ex-wife, Amber Heard, and after going through a very public trial (by choice), he lost a lot of his contracts with big studios, Disney included.

After Depp emerged from the trial having won back public favor and being acquitted on some charges after winning the defamation case against Amber Heard, many were keen to see how the actor would bounce back. Perhaps in this hope, over the years, there have been many conflicting reports that Depp would be returning to Disney, with others denying them.

Recently, there was a viral movie poster of Pirates of the Caribbean that had many believing the actor was reprising his role. But is this poster true, or is it yet another one in a long line of fake movie posters that have been garnering much interest lately?

Our take is it’s the latter.

A Viral Poster Raises Questions of Johnny Depp’s Return to Pirates of the Caribbean

A poster shared on Facebook earlier this week of Pirates of the Caribbean: Demons of the Corsair had many fans wondering about its credibility, especially because it featured Johnny Depp front and center.

The poster was shared with a caption about the plot of this supposed movie:

Get ready for an epic maritime journey as Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush return in “Pirates of the Caribbean: Demons of the Corsair.” Brace yourselves for heart-stopping action, treacherous waters, and supernatural encounters with long lost acquaintances, all masterfully directed by Gore Verbinski.

The movie is also reportedly set to release in 2025. Some reports also linked this return to the rumors circulating last year of Depp allegedly being offered $301 million to return to Disney. The rumors also claimed that along with this $301 million offer, Depp also received an apology letter.

It was, of course, later revealed that these were entirely fabricated… much like the poster.

Is the Poster Real?

Short answer: No.

The movie poster was one of many shared by a particular user of potential movies that could one day become a reality but that, for the moment, are just fervent hopes on the part of many Disney fans.

The poster has none of the quintessential Disney quality we’re used to seeing. The font is clearly fan-made with the image recalling the AI poster wave that peaked earlier this year.

At the moment, the last reports on Johnny Depp detail that he’s unlikely to return to Disney, irrespective of what rumors say. However, even producer Jerry Bruckheimer has stated previously he’s open to Mr. Depp returning to the role.

It’s probably best to wait for an official announcement from either Depp’s representatives or Disney before getting our hopes up!
