The Jurassic World saga has spent the last decade steadily pushing its own boundaries of logic. What began as a modern continuation of Jurassic Park has evolved into a franchise defined by escalation—dinosaur hybrids, global threats, and mutant experimentations.

From the hybrid dinosaur of Jurassic World (2015) to the human cloning storyline in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and the global dinosaur integration to the introduction of genetically engineered locust swarms in Jurassic World Dominion (2022), each entry has completely tested the boundaries of logic for the long-running film series.
But this evolution of the franchise hasn't always been welcomed evenly. Fallen Kingdom came under fire for essentially feeling like a film of two halves, while Dominion, despite also surpassing $1 billion globally, was criticised for losing focus on its central premise.

That trend continued last year with Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), which starred Scarlett Johansson in the lead role. While the film grossed $869.1 million worldwide, its reception reflected the franchise’s ongoing identity crisis.
Positioned as a partial reset, Rebirth pulls the story away from global dinosaur situation and returns it to the tried-and-tested traditional isolated island survival structure.

Even before release, however, the film’s premise divided audiences. Many viewed the shift as a retreat from the ambitious scope established in Fallen Kingdom and Dominion, while others criticized the introduction of mutant dinosaurs, a concept that feels far-fetched even for a franchise that had already introduced dinosaur hybrids and human clones.
Now, despite all that backlash, attention is turning toward what comes next.

According to reports, a new film is in early stages of development, with a possible 2028 release window being targeted. Director Gareth Edwards and Scarlett Johansson are reportedly in negotiations to return, though Universal has not confirmed anything yet.
If the franchise’s history is any indication, though, the next instalment will almost certainly continue pushing the boundaries. Whether that means more mutant dinosaurs, new global-scale threats, or even human-dinosaur experimentations, remains to be seen. But given the trajectory from cloned dinosaurs to cloned humans, never say never.
