The Disney Parks Blog just broke some exciting EPCOT news we’ve all been waiting for! Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, the newest thrill ride to arrive at EPCOT, is now set to open next year in 2022! We’ve got the scoop on some new behind-the-scenes details:
We just learned that the pavilion the brand new attraction will be housed in, formerly the Universe of Energy, will now be the Wonders of Xandar pavilion, host to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
Imagineers Tom Fitzgerald and Scot Drake can be seen in the photo above inside the Wonders of Xandar pavilion (shown to the public for the first time in this photo). When completed, the area will feature a Galaxarium, which is basically a presentation shown in a planetery-esque setting, a place where Xandarians would go to show Guests visiting EPCOT the advanced technologies in their world.
This new EPCOT attraction is set to be a family-friendly thrill, with a never before seen type of rollercoaster designed especially for use in this attraction. Known a a “storycoaster,” the ride vehicles will rotate 360 degrees so Guests on the attraction won’t miss any piece of the action while helping the Guardians save the galaxy.
On top of this all new type of ride vehicle, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will feature the first reverse launch on a Walt Disney World roller coaster AND it is set to be one of the longest enclosed rollercoasters in the world! (We can already tell this is going to be a long attraction by the size of the show building.)
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is just one piece of the ongoing transformation of EPCOT and we are excited to see what is coming soon for the future of the park! The ride looks to be exactly what Guests would come to expect in terms of Disney storytelling and capturing the scale of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and we can’t wait to experience it for ourselves!
