As usual, summer has been full of blockbuster hits so far — and Lightyear has been Pixar Animation Studio’s addition to the summer collection of theatrical releases. If you already saw the new Pixar movie and Toy Story prequel Lightyear, which stars Marvel actor and Disney fanatic Chris Evans, then let us know on Facebook if you liked it; if you haven’t seen it yet and haven’t felt like going back into movie theaters yet, we have some great news for you!
Lightyear is coming very soon to the streaming service Disney+, so any and all Buzz Lightyear fans with Disney+ access or subscriptions will be able to watch the new intergalactic space adventure in a little over two weeks!

Back in the day, movies spent quite a bit of time in theaters before coming to DVD and being watched by viewers from the comfort of their homes. The rise of streaming services like Disney+ and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has changed that.
After the pandemic began and theater attendance became nonexistent, Disney adopted a new strategy: releasing films in theaters for only 45 days and then sharing them with everyone via Disney+.
Now, Disney has confirmed in the Tweet shown below that it is basically sticking with that pattern. Lightyear is only two weeks and a day away: the new Pixar movie about the Space Ranger who inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy is coming to Disney+ on August 3!
Since many people might consider the ongoing pandemic to be less severe than it was in 2020 and 2021, this release date will probably seem to be earlier than expected to some (especially since summer is still going strong in August).

Technically, this earlier-than-expected release date actually means that Disney is stretching its strategy a little bit: Lightyear will have had 47 days in theaters, not 45. Two extra days might not seem like much, but perhaps Disney and Pixar are trying to help the film get a few more audience members in theaters. Regardless of the reasons, Toy Story and Lightyear fans can rejoice to know that their favorite Space Ranger is coming to Disney+ in just 15 days!
