It appears that Walt Disney Studios still has plans for a live-action remake of the beloved animated feature Lilo & Stitch (2002) but still insistent that fans will never get to see it in theaters.
According to The Hollywood Reporter,
“Dean Fleischer Camp, the filmmaker behind indie darling and best animated Oscar nominee Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, is directing the feature that is intended to be a major release on Disney+.”
This clarification was shared along with the news that comedy legend Zach Galifianakis is confirmed to be onboard with the project. The script for the adaptation of Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois’ cult classic was reportedly penned by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, and the project will be produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich with Ryan Halprin as executive producer.

The latest manifestation of the genetically-engineered destructive alien disguised as a dog, officially named Experiment 626, will reportedly be a product of the latest CGI technology, with Chris Sanders returning to the role. But the cast of characters, including the lead roles such as Lilo, Nani, David, and the others, are still unknown.
Confirmation of a straight to Disney+ release will undoubtedly be a disheartening reality for fans, as hopes of seeing their favorite Disney characters return to the screen crash hard. The distributional demotion also sparks concern for the film’s overall quality as “Straight to Disney+” continues to gain synonimity with “Straight to Video.”
