Ryan Reynolds has worn the Deadpool suit long enough to turn it into a second skin. But Marvel has never been shy about bending its own rules — especially after opening the floodgates of the Multiverse. With Deadpool & Wolverine proving that no version of Wade Wilson is off the table, one recent casting choice has fans wondering if Marvel might be lining up an unexpected experiment.
With “Deadpool VR”, fans naturally expected some kind of involvement from Ryan Reynolds — instead, Deadpool is voiced entirely by Neil Patrick Harris. And the game has now officially landed on Meta Quest 3 and 3S,
The actor's delivery is notably similar to Reynolds’, and the casting is likely to prompt a question among some fans: could Harris actually play Deadpool in live action someday?

Under normal circumstances, the idea might be dismissed immediately. Reynolds and the character have been tied together since 2016’s Deadpool, followed by Deadpool 2 in 2018 and last year’s box-office hit Deadpool & Wolverine. That film made $1.338 billion worldwide and brought Wade Wilson into the MCU for the first time.
But it also introduced something else — that there are infinite Deadpools across the Multiverse (the third act alone featured an endless swarm of variants). With that creative door opened, Harris stepping into live action doesn't seem at all impossible.

Reynolds himself has hinted at stepping back. While promoting Deadpool & Wolverine last year, he told Collider, “Right now’s the time to just kind of hang it up [the suit] for a bit and see what happens next.”
His absence is also noticeable in Avengers: Doomsday. The 2026 ensemble doesn’t feature Reynolds or Hugh Jackman — at least not officially. The Russo brothers are directing, Robert Downey Jr. is back, this time as Doctor Doom, and the cast list is packed: Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Wyatt Russell, and many more. Even Patrick Stewart and Kelsey Grammer are returning as their respective X-Men. But no Deadpool and no Wolverine.
Meanwhile, Logan is getting his own Insomniac game with “Marvel's Wolverine”, and Deadpool is now in VR. If Harris connects with players and audiences — and if Reynolds truly steps away — Marvel might consider a Multiverse detour for the “Merc with a Mouth”.
