The Orange County Sheriff’s Department arrested Brookline, Massachusetts, Detective Duane Arthur Danforth for allegedly hitting a sheriff’s deputy at EPCOT. Detective Danforth was placed on paid administrative leave by the Brookline Police Department while it looked into the alleged incident at Disney World.
According to NBC 10 Boston, Duane Danforth attempted to enter a private event at EPCOT’s United Kingdom pavilion. After a cast member told him he could not enter the event, Danforth refused to leave the area. The cast member alerted Disney security.
When Disney security arrived and told Danforth he would have to go around the private event, he allegedly threatened to kill the Disney security guard. He pushed past him into the event, attempting to disappear into the crowd.
According to reports, witnesses said that Detective Danforth was belligerent and appeared to be intoxicated. He was also carrying a young girl in his arms.

Disney security and Orange County deputies, who had arrived on the scene, entered the private party to find Danforth. After he ignored a warning from Disney security, a deputy approached him and reached for his shoulder. Detective Danforth allegedly pushed the deputy and then resisted arrest.
Danforth is a decorated veteran of the Brookline Police Department, where in 2021, he was named “Officer of the Year.” After he was arrested, Danforth allegedly told the arresting deputy that he understood he was working as a law enforcement officer and he “should not have pushed him.”
Brookline resident Rich Moriarty told NBC 10 Boston:
I’m surprised. That’s not good behavior for a policeman.
Brookline Detective Duane Danforth was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries he suffered during the fracas. He was charged with battery, battery on a law enforcement officer, and resisting an officer without violence.
The Brookline Police detective was released on a $10 bond. He had to surrender his firearm and weapons and was allowed to return to Massachusetts. He was also trespassed from EPCOT and not allowed to return to Disney World property.
