For five years in the early 2000s, one of the most popular shows on The Disney Channel was Hannah Montana. The show starred Miley Cyrus as Miley Stewart, a young girl who was a typical teenager by day and a pop star by night. She keeps her identity a secret, and the only people who know are her family and her two best friends Lilly and Oliver — played by Emily Osment and Mitchel Musso. The show shot Miley Cyrus to superstardom and made the show’s stars household names.
It has been more than ten years since Hannah Montana last aired a new episode on The Disney Channel, but one of its stars has found themselves back in the headlines. On Saturday, August 26, Mitchel Musso — now 32 years old — was arrested in Rockwall, Texas, which is about 25 miles from Dallas. Musso was arrested for public intoxication, theft, and other charges.
Per NBCDFW, a local news station:
On Saturday, Aug. 26 at approximately 7:15 p.m., the Rockwall Police Department received a 911 call from an individual reporting a disturbance at a hotel located in the 2600 Block of Lakefront Trail.
Upon arrival, officers contacted the complainant who advised an individual who appeared intoxicated entered the hotel, selected a bag of chips and began eating them.
When he was asked to pay for them, he became verbally abusive and left without rendering payment. Officers contacted him outside the hotel where he was identified.
Police arrested 32-year-old Mitchel Musso for public intoxication and theft, in addition to other charges. The item Musso is accused of trying to steal had a value of less than $100, according to jail records. His total bail for the public intoxication and theft charges was $1,000. The bail for his other charges was about $1,080, records showed.
When Musso was arrested, the officers ran a background check and discovered that Musso had several outstanding warrants for traffic violations. He spent the night in jail and was released from the Rockwall County Detention Center the next day after his bail was posted.
It is not the first time that Musso has been arrested on suspicion of DUI. In 2011, he was pulled over in Burbank, California, for a DUI, when he was just 20 years old.
In addition to playing Oliver Oken in the Hannah Montana series, Musso also starred in the hit Disney Channel show Phineas and Ferb. He reprised both roles more than once for spinoff shows and movies. He also had a singing career and created more than a dozen music videos. In 2022, he created his own record label — Musso Records.
According to his IMDB page, Musso has not starred in anything since 2021 and does not have any upcoming projects. He has not released a statement on his arrest.
