Back in 2019, at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, Disney announced that a new Moana-themed attraction would be coming to EPCOT. The attraction would be called Journey of Water, and it would allow guests to interact with water and learn about its global cycle. It was the perfect attraction for EPCOT, which has always been a park aimed at teaching guests new, exciting things.
The new attraction was originally scheduled to open in 2021, when Walt Disney World Resort kicked off its massive 50th Anniversary celebration. Unfortunately, there were a number of setbacks (including the pandemic). Just like TRON Lightcycle/Run, Journey of Water did not open for the 50th. TRON not long after the 50th ended, but Moana is still having the finishing touches put on.
Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, is set to open later this year. Cast members were recently able to experience the attraction, and we have now learned that there will be a dry path that guests can take!
The Walt Disney World website has been updated to read: “You can choose to get wet—or take the dry path instead—as you explore this whimsical, watery world.”
What’s even better is that, no matter which path a guest chooses to take, they will be able to use their MagicBand. Walt Disney Imagineering did not tie MagicBand use just to the wet path. Guests can choose to stay dry, get a little wet, or get completely soaked! The dry path will allow guests to still interact with the water, but not on the same level as the wet path.
For guests who choose to use the wet path, Disney recommends that they bring a towel and a change of clothes. The attraction will be located in the World Nature area at EPCOT.
During the experience, guests will follow a circular walking trail that will take them through all parts of the water cycle. The water will make its way from the sky to the oceans and rivers and back again. Guests will be encouraged to “play” with the water in each area. Those areas are Rain, Stream, Wetland, Spring, Land, Lake, River, Ocean, and Sky.
Disney Fanatic will keep readers updated when we learn of an opening date.
