A mother who went viral for being captured breastfeeding while on a Disney ride responded to criticisms of her actions.

Going to Central Florida’s Walt Disney World or Southern California’s Disneyland Resort is universally agreed upon to be some of the best ways to have the ultimate Disney experience. Whether it’s riding Space Mountain or enjoying Country Bear Jamboree in Magic Kingdom Park, experiencing the wonder that is a Disney vacation is certainly something to write home about.

Recently, a mother was photographed breastfeeding her child on a Disney ride, causing both backlash and support for her actions online.

Mother Speaks Out Against Critics Who Shamed Her for Breastfeeding on Disney Ride

Meredith Barnyak and her husband Jeremy visited the Central Florida Disney resort to enjoy a Disney vacation with their children Graham, 3, and Poppy, 1, to “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”

While speaking to Today, Barnyak explained, “She would just pull on my shirt, and I thought, ‘OK, it’s dark out. We’re all humans. We’re all honestly going to enjoy the ride a lot better and you’ll be happier being fed.’”

The mother even added that it was “normal for her to breastfeed her daughter whenever she needed it,” and it so happened that the Frozen Ever After ride was one of those moments. “I am a pretty big proponent of any way you can feed your baby you should be able to do it — in any place,” she explained.

It was only after the flash went off that Barnyak realized everyone on the ride would have a photo of her breastfeeding her young daughter.

After the incident concluded, Barnyak’s cousin, Jo Goddard – who runs the women’s lifestyle website, Cup of Jo – asked if she could post the photo from the ride to her Instagram page. When Barnyak agreed, Goddard posted the picture with the caption, “My cousin @meredithbarnyak being an absolute MOM on this Disney ride.”

While many thought the photo was hilarious, however, others “shamed” Barnyak. One commented, “Not to be a stick in the mud but this seems…kinda dangerous?? Am I overestimating the thrill level on this ride? The rest of the adults seem to be clinging on pretty tight!”

Another agreed, saying that Barnyak breastfeeding her daughter on the ride was “stupid, dangerous, and irresponsible,” while another wrote that the mother had “ruined the photo” for other guests with her breastfeeding.

However, Mrs. Barnyak was having none of the negativity.

She shared, “I guess if you look at this picture, it might look like it’s an intense ride. But it’s a boat ride. There’s no seatbelts. It’s a very nice, relaxing ride, except that there is a drop that you don’t see coming because it’s dark. And that’s when that photo was taken.”

She even spoke about the supposed dangerous nature of the situation, explaining, “If anything, I felt like it was actually more secure because she was in one place versus me having to juggle her moving around. I wouldn’t have breastfed my child if it was a roller coaster.”
