Disney fans said goodbye to Muppet*Vision 3D over the weekend, marking the end of its 34-year run at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The long-running 3D film attraction, which featured Jim Henson’s iconic characters with in-theater 4D effects, closed its curtains as Disney prepares to transform the Grand Avenue area into a Monsters, Inc.-themed land.
Fortunately, this November, The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert will return for its fifth year, bringing the beloved 1992 holiday film to theaters up and down the U.K. While this show doesn’t include 3D or 4D effects, audiences can still expect a full theatrical experience, with a live orchestra playing the film’s score in sync with the movie on screen.

“The Muppet Christmas Carol sees The Muppets perform the classic Charles Dickens holiday tale, with Kermit the Frog playing Bob Cratchit, the put-upon clerk of stingy Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Caine),” Disney’s official description for the upcoming U.K. performance and the film itself reads. It’s the must-watch version of Dickens’ novella.
Any Muppets fan will be more than familiar with the 1992 classic, though. After all, the film has been a cherished holiday staple since its release 33 years ago. As such, the heart-warming tale may bring some comfort to fans who might still be grieving the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D this Christmas, whether that’s in the U.K. or from their own home.
The problem is that it’s only currently in the U.K. Either way, it shows that the Muppets still have staying power. On the other hand, it likely has more to do with the fact that The Muppet Christmas Carol is a beloved film. As such, Disney may wish to lean into the 1992 film going forward, perhaps even referencing it with some sort of scene on the upcoming Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets, which is due to open sometime in 2026.
Performances of The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert start from November 21. Cities include Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Sheffield.
