In 2019, The Walt Disney Company launched its very own streaming platform, Disney+. Disney+ was the ultimate place to go to watch everything from classic Disney movies to Disney Channel shows, and even Disney Channel original movies. Disney also has created a number of original shows and movies, just for Disney+ subscribers, including The Mandalorian, The Imagineering Story, Cheaper By the Dozen, and so many more. Disney+ is quickly becoming one of the most popular streaming platforms in the world.
Over the past few years, streaming platforms like Netflix have seen a huge increase in the popularity of foreign-language shows. Shows like Squid Game and All of Us Are Dead. Disney+ is available in dozens of countries, each with its own unique programming. Now, Disney is bringing more foreign language hits to its large American audience. Last year, Snowdrop, a Korean drama, premiered on Disney+ and was a hit. Now, Disney is planning on bringing even more foreign language shows to its platform in the US.
Disney is known for its family-friendly entertainment. However, the most recent foreign-language show that Disney gave the green light on seems anything but. The new show will be a German original and tell the story of a young woman who falls in love with the devil himself. And she doesn’t just fall in love. The two spend the night together and the teenager ends up pregnant with his child
Here’s more on the interesting new film green-lit by Disney:
Pauline follows the eponymous protagonist, an 18-year-old who accidentally becomes pregnant – from a one-night stand. With school stress, the climate crisis and the downfall of society weighing heavily on her mind, something she doesn’t need at all right now is catching feelings, especially not for her one-night stand Lukas, who, as it turns out, is the devil himself.
“For a long time, the series has been and still remains a project very close to our hearts,” said [Philipp] Käßbohrer and [Matthais] SiraMurmann [executive producers].
“We’re thrilled that Disney+ loves this coming-of-age story as much as we do and that we’ve now been able to begin filming with such an amazing cast and crew.”
This is not the first time that Käßbohrer and Murmann have worked together. The two previously teamed up with Pauline writer Sebastian Colley on the Netflix project How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast). Paulina will star Sira-Anna Faal, Ludger Bökelmann, and Lukas von Horbatschewsky.
Pauline will not be the first German original coming to Disney+. Disney is also working on the series Sam – A Saxon. Sam – A Saxon will tell the story of Sam Meffire, a young man forced to join the East Germany police force in Berlin. When the Berlin Wall falls, Sam is imprisoned as an enemy of the state.
Disney Fanatic will keep readers updated as we learn more about both of these exciting new shows!
Disney is getting so dark and occult. It used to be hidden but even the Marvel movies have become unwatchable. Disney should stick to what it became famous for – good, clean, safe family fun. So disappointed.
The fact that Disney would release a movie about a teenager getting impregnated by Satan on a 1 night stand, but would NOT release/sponsor the movie “Sound of Freedom” says everything you/I need to know about them.
