More than 30 years after its debut, the Jurassic Park franchise remains as dominant as ever. The six-film series has pulled in over $6 billion at the global box office, and its influence extends well beyond movies, spanning animated series, merchandise, and even theme park attractions.
Universal Studios has fully embraced the franchise, bringing it to life with immersive experiences like Jurassic Park: The Ride, Jurassic World: The Ride, and the adrenaline-pumping VelociCoaster. Nothing quite captures the essence of Jurassic Park like the rush of a roller coaster or log flume ride—hurtling through the dark, dodging dinosaurs, and feeling that same mix of awe and terror that defined the original film.
While the recent Jurassic World films have taken the franchise into new territory, exploring the implications of dinosaurs living among humans, with the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth set to continue with those themes, the new video game “Jurassic Park: Survival” promises a return to the series’ roots.
Developed by Saber Interactive and Universal Products & Experiences, the first-person action-adventure sequel takes place just one day after the events of the 1993 film, allowing players to explore a fully realized Isla Nublar. Universal has shared a handful of details, including a trailer and a Q&A with key developers, hinting at the expansive environments and survival-focused gameplay awaiting players.

The game follows Dr. Maya Joshi, an InGen scientist who was left behind during the park’s evacuation. As she fights to stay alive on an island now completely overrun by dinosaurs, she’ll need to scavenge for resources, navigate dangerous terrain, and survive encounters with both prehistoric creatures and “other surprising threats.” Given the game’s setting, it raises an interesting possibility—could we see an abandoned Jurassic Park roller coaster in action?
One of the most memorable set pieces from Telltale’s 2011 “Jurassic Park: The Game” was the “Bone Shaker,” a roller coaster built into a cliffside that became the site of a tense, dinosaur-fueled escape sequence. Though “Jurassic Park: Survival” isn’t connected to Telltale’s game, it’s entirely possible that Saber Interactive could incorporate a similar attraction, whether as a nod to past games or simply as a thrilling, cinematic set piece.

Even if “Jurassic Park: Survival” doesn’t revive Bone Shaker, there’s room for the game to introduce a new, unfinished roller coaster within the remains of the abandoned park. After all, Isla Nublar was supposed to be a fully operational theme park before things went sideways, and a coaster—whether a rideable one or simply an eerie remnant of what could have been—would fit right in.
There’s also the possibility that the game could take inspiration from the real-world attractions at Universal Studios. Of course, “Jurassic Park: Survival” isn’t a theme park simulator—it’s a survival game first and foremost—but the idea of players encountering a partially completed ride, overtaken by nature and dinosaurs, is one that would undoubtedly heighten the game’s sense of immersion.
While an official release date for “Jurassic Park: Survival” hasn’t been announced, the excitement surrounding the game continues to build. Whether or not Dr. Maya Joshi finds herself in a roller coaster showdown remains to be seen, but with its rich setting and high-stakes premise, this could be the closest fans get to experiencing the thrills of Isla Nublar first-hand.
