In 2001, the Disneyland Resort experienced a massive expansion. In January of that year, the Downtown Disney District opened. Downtown Disney was just like the one found at Walt Disney World Resort, just on a smaller scale. One month later, a second theme park opened — Disney California Adventure Park. That transformed Disneyland into a true vacation destination.

If you have visited Disneyland Resort in recent months, then you may have noticed that the Downtown Disney District is undergoing a major transformation. Gone are the massive AMC movie theater and the surrounding stores. Those have been demolished as Disney creates new shopping and dining experiences. So far, Disney has shared that Downtown Disney will soon be home to the popular Porto’s Bakery, as well as Din Tai Fung, a world-renowned Chinese restaurant.

Now, Disney has announced even more amazing dining options will be coming to The Happiest Place on Earth!

Four new eateries will soon call Disneyland Resort home in an area that will be called Parkside Market. Disney Parks Blog shared more. Let’s take a look!

Seoul Sister

  • A fast-casual modern eatery that will serve a Korean-forward menu based on bibimbap (Korean rice bowls) with a California twist. Executive Chef Kelly Kim will showcase bold Korean flavors through marinated meats, colorful vegetables, and savory sauces over rice, noodles or salad, plus appetizers, an Asian-inspired breakfast menu, and hand-crafted drinks.

Sip & Sonder

  • From founders Amanda-Jane Thomas and Shanita Nicholas, is a Black women-owned brand that has been recognized as one of the best cafés in L.A. by the Los Angeles Times. Guests in the district can expect to enjoy Sip & Sonder’s signature lattes, as well as fresh treats, frozen drinks, and Caribbean-inspired bites.

GG’s Chicken Shop

  • Affectionately named after Wolen’s mother Geri, the shop will serve a family-friendly menu of chicken sandwiches, salads, and classic dinner table sides. The first brick-and-mortar GG’s Chicken Shop opened earlier this year in Chicago, and this new location in Downtown Disney District will be its first on the West Coast.

GG’s Chicken Shop will also have a second floor where guests can dine al fresco and enjoy the sites and sounds of Downtown Disney. The al fresco dining area will also offer a variety of delicious cocktails and mocktails. Guests will be able to choose from frozen lemonades, frozé (frozen Rosé), espresso martinis, cocktails to share, and satisfying alcohol-free “elixirs.”

At this time, we do not know when these new eateries will open to guests. We do know that later this year, a new entertainment area will open in Downtown Disney. The area will feature a lawn and stage for special performances.

Up until now, there had only been a small stage in Downtown Disney by the former ESPN Zone. This new dedicated stage area will be gorgeous and give guests plenty of room to dance their hearts out.
