Calling all peanut butter lovers! You’ve likely heard in the news that there is a peanut butter recall. Take note, as it seems like the recall is now affecting a fan-favorite Disney Springs location.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a report that they are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Senftenberg infections linked to certain Jif peanut butter products produced at the J.M. Smucker Company facility in Lexington, Kentucky.

Be sure to check those pantries before making that beloved peanut butter and jelly sandwich. J.M. Smucker Company has recalled certain Jif brand peanut butter products that have the lot code numbers between 1274425 – 2140425, only if the first seven digits end with 425 (manufactured in Lexington, KY).

Now, head with us over to Walt Disney World Resort where peanut butter is the star of several Disney foodie favorites. The recall is currently affecting the ever-so-popular Gideon’s Bakehouse in The Landings portion of Disney Springs.

Gideon’s opened at Disney Springs in January 2021 from across from Wine Bar George, serving delicious half-pound cookies, enticing cakes, and heavenly cold brews. The unique atmosphere inside the bakery is one of mystery and wonder and Disney fans can’t seem to get enough of what Gideon’s has to offer from its Original Chocolate Chip Cookie to its Coffee Cake Cookie and more.

Of course, peanut butter dessert is the star of several Gideon’s treats which has the restaurant in a bit of a pickle. Gideon’s Bakehouse took to social media on May 24, 2022, to announce:

“Hi! So, I’m in a bit of a pickle. All of our wonderful limited flavors this month are Peanut Butter based, and due to the recall, all bulk stock of PB coming into the state has been slowed down. We need hundreds of pounds a day and have zero. So, officially, there are no PB-based Desserts in the shop, aka Peanut Butter Crunch, Peanut Butter Chocolate Swirl, and the fantastic PB&J Cake Slices. This issue won’t likely resolve until next week, and it will take us a couple of days to ramp back up production since, as you know, everything we do is made from scratch by hand and takes over 24 hours to prepare. If my tears could turn into Peanut Butter, you would all have a lifetime supply.”

“To compensate, we’ll be adding Coffee Cake and Dark Coffee Cake in greater numbers to BOTH stores starting tomorrow (Wednesday) available at open until sell out. That Cookie is limited because it takes so long to make, so we might not be able to maintain it for long. Keep an eye on feed and stories for flavor replacement updates going into the weekend. To replace the PB&J Cake Slice until this blows over … drum roll … the Original Red Velvet Cake Slices return! Cream Cheese is back!!⁣”

“The Nitro PB Cold Brew will still be available at @DisneySpring. It is made with peanuts from our favorite Georgia Farm, not peanut butter. ⁣ I appreciate your patience through all of this. We’re doing our best to get back on track ASAP and bring you some fun things while you wait.”

For now, peanut butter lovers will have to put their desire to enjoy a Gideon’s peanut butter delight on the back burner as Gideon’s works to regain speed after the recall. In the meantime, the lengthy line and virtual queue to enjoy Gideon’s are well worth it in our opinion. Happy dining (just not on peanut buttee cookies!), Disney fans!
