Who doesn’t like heavy metal covers of classic Disney songs?
Honestly, the answer is probably many fans. But there is the rare occasion when the core-rooted power of a heavy metal group aligns itself perfectly with the emotional charge of a Disney anthem and creates a new version deserving of recognition.
Recently we found that destiny pairing in No Resolve’s cover of “Surface Pressure” by Lin-Manuel Miranda from Disney’s Encanto. Now, we have found a newer version of “Go the Distance” from Disney’s Hercules, performed by Peyton Parrish.
Check it out:
With a musical identity built around his deep brooding vocals, Peyton Parrish’s repertoire is mostly in Norse Rock, with his most listened to songs on Spotify being his covers of “Valhalla Calling” and the Viking folk song “My Mother Told Me.” But in covering the radio version of Alan Menken and David Zippel’s song–first recorded by Michael Bolton–we hear a passionate vocal that gets its listeners pumped up.

This is also not Peyton Parrish’s first Disney cover. In 2021, he recorded his own version of “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” from Disney’s Mulan. In this reporter’s opinion, it exceeds all expectations.

But TK, Disney came out with a heavy metal album years ago.
Yes, Disney did release an official album of “heavy metal” covers, and artists like Jonathan Young have been doing Disney covers for some time. But artists continue to take on individual Disney songs in their own way, and in the cases where the songs are really good, they are worth sharing.
Parrish had been teasing the release of his Hercules cover on his social media and finally dropped it just two weeks ago. As the first reception came in, he asked his listeners if he should cover more Disney songs going forward. His latest yet-to-be-released Disney cover appears to be “Bet On It” from High School Musical (seriously). Only time will tell what other recreations of other Disney classics Fanatics will be treated to in the near future.
We at Disney Fanatic will continue to share Disney news and stories with our readers as they continue to come to light.
