A new stage musical adapted from Disney’s The Little Mermaid will take up residency aboard Disney Cruise Line’s newest and grandest ship yet, the Disney Wish.

First images from some of the scenes were shared on Twitter by reporter Scott Gustin (@ScottGustin), saying,

“NEW: Here’s a look at “Disney The Little Mermaid” coming to the #DisneyWish. The original Broadway-style stage adaptation of the 1989 film was developed exclusively for the Wish.”

The three images appear to be each from three of the biggest musical numbers in the Disney Classic written by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken: “Under the Sea,” “Part of Your World,” and “Poor Unfortunate Souls.” The puppetry and staging also seem to be combining costumes with puppets in a way that reminds this reporter of the Little Mermaid stage show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort.

It also appears that Disney is taking a different approach to casting for this show as the pictures show both Princess Ariel and the sea witch Ursula being played by black women. This appears to be following the upcoming remake, which stars Halle Bailey as the live-action version of this Disney Princess.

We at Disney Fanatic shared images of the concept art for Disney Cruise Line’s onboard experience when they were released back in March of this year. Click the link below to revisit and compare the concepts with the execution for yourselves:
