PHOTOS: Guests Get Stuck on Disney Skyliner, Told to Use Emergency Kits

It was after sunset on April 7 when the Disney Skyliner at the Walt Disney World Resort broke down once again and left passengers hanging in their cars.

Two such Guests, identified as Melissa and Mike C., found themselves suspended and stuck between Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort in a gondola car with a family with three children.

Melissa told us that she and her husband were on their way to dinner at Sebastian’s at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and that they sat high in the sky for about 30 minutes. But during that time, a Cast Member’s voice came on the in-car speaker system and told them to open the emergency kits–which Cast Members apparently referred to as a “convenience kit.”

“We do have a convenience kit for you to use,” said the Cast Member. “It can be found in the black box under your seat. Open up that box. Also, press the emergency call button by the door of the cabin if you need further assistance.”

Inside were pouches of emergency drinking water (which makes this reporter wonder how long one could possibly get stuck up there).

Melissa confirmed, though, that the three kids were calm and well-behaved and that she and her husband were still able to make their reservation once the transportation system got moving again.

The Disney Skyliner offers transportation to and from EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as well as Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, and Disney’s Riviera Resort. It has gained a mixed reputation among Disney Guests, as it is not a friendly situation for Guests prone to claustrophobia and have a fear of heights, and it has a tendency to stop–be it a mechanical issue or certain Guests needing extra assistance getting in and out. It is unclear why this instance occurred beyond generic technical issues.

It should be noted that the Walt Disney World Resort still has not revived Park-to-Park Bus Transportation. So, Guests looking to get to and from World Showcase and Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge that do not wish to utilize the Disney Skyliner will have to use Friendship Boats or walk past Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resorts, Disney’s BoardWalk Resort, and Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts.
