A renowned actor who has starred in more than 40 movies on the silver screen, and been working his way up in Hollywood for many decades, has sadly passed away.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Mexican actor Sergio Calderón has died at the age of 77  in a Los Angeles hospital, in the company of his loved ones.

Calderón played a crucial Pirate Lord in the movie that completed one of Disney’s most successful trilogies, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007).

Memories With Keith Richards and Johnny Depp

Calderón’s character was Captain Eduardo Villanueva, the Pirate Lord of the Adriatic Sea.

His Pirate Lord character shared his piece of eight with his fellow Pirate Lords in a conclave within the secret Shipwreck Cove — a pivotal meeting in the film in which the pirates decided to wage war on the East India Trading company and any other authorities who threatened their way of life.

Captain Elizabeth Swann (played by Keira Knightley) was at the meeting since she replaced Captain Sao Feng, and Captain Jack Sparrow (played by Johnny Depp) was also present.

While working on Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Calderón not only worked with A-list actors like Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp, but also with icons like Keith Richards, who played Captain Edward Teague.

Take a look at this well-established actor’s behind-the-scenes photos with Keith and Johnny in the Tweets from him, shown below!

Hollywood Royalty

Sergio Calderón was not necessarily a household name, but he was an actor who appeared in many films and worked with many very famous actors.

On Calderón’s Twitter page, the late actor wrote the following: “I’ve been in more than 40 Hollywood motion pictures with more to be made.”

Sergio Calderón (who was born in Mexico in 1945 and studied at the Instituto Andrés Soler of the Asociación Nacional de Actores) worked with the likes of John Houston and Albert Finney.

Aside from Pirates of the Caribbean, one of his other recognizable roles was that of José in Men in Black (1997) opposite Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith.

Even though several Pirates of the Caribbean movies have been made since the original three films made their theatrical debuts, and even though there are more movies to come with or without Johnny Depp in the role of Captain Jack Sparrow, many fans of the first three films have suggested that their lightning-in-a-bottle magic cannot be replicated.

Learning about the death of one of these film’s stars, unfortunately, only cements the idea that the Pirates of the Caribbean magic is fading.
