Ranking the Most Likely Shutdowns to Happen Inside EPCOT

If you thought EPCOT’s grand transformation wrapped up in 2024 meant smooth sailing from here on out, think again. The construction walls may be gone, but the long game for Disney is always about deciding what stays, what goes, and what gets reimagined. And while some EPCOT staples are rock-solid, others are teetering dangerously close to extinction.

The Winners

Fresh projects like CommuniCore Hall and Plaza were designed to anchor EPCOT’s festivals, so their future is secure. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has quickly become the park’s biggest thrill ride, ensuring its survival for years to come. Meanwhile, World Showcase—with its restaurants, shops, and cultural ties—is safe at its core, though don’t be surprised if smaller upgrades roll out inside certain pavilions.

The Wild Cards

The Play! Pavilion is EPCOT’s biggest embarrassment. Announced as a family-friendly reinvention of Wonders of Life, it was erased from Disney’s roadmap in 2023. Now, the dome just sits there, looking more like a tombstone than an attraction. Unless Disney suddenly revives the project, this “ghost pavilion” will stay a black eye for the park.

Mexico’s Gran Fiesta Tour is another attraction under the microscope. Rumors point to a future Coco retheme, and Disney has shown it isn’t shy about phasing out older, less marketable characters in favor of popular IP. The Caballeros still have fans, but when you weigh them against the box office success and cultural weight of Coco, it’s easy to see which way the wind is blowing.

The Locks

Certain EPCOT staples are almost impossible to imagine disappearing. Spaceship Earth might eventually undergo a reimagining, but Disney wouldn’t dare close the park’s visual centerpiece for good. France, Norway, and Japan thrive with attractions and dining that draw heavy crowds daily, making them untouchable for at least another decade.

Festivals also hold more power than ever. Food & Wine, Flower & Garden, and Festival of the Holidays guarantee consistent attendance. With CommuniCore now serving as a festival headquarters, Disney has doubled down on this model for the long term.

Final Verdict

The message is clear: EPCOT isn’t done changing. For fans, that means enjoying the quirky charm of rides like Gran Fiesta Tour while you can. The park has never been afraid to rewrite its own story, and with Disney’s eye always on the next big hit, it’s only a matter of time before some of today’s attractions are tomorrow’s memories.
