Disney Drops Surprise Update on Closed ‘Ratatouille’ Attraction

One Disney park has kept one of its most popular attractions closed since October. It has now provided an update on its future.

Ratatouille has long been one of the park’s highest-capacity family rides, drawing steady lines thanks to its Pixar branding and trackless ride system. Its absence has shifted guest traffic toward Marvel Avengers Campus and the park’s limited remaining rides.

Walt Disney Studios Park is scheduled to relaunch as Disney Adventure World in March 2026, bringing new lands, new entertainment, and a new identity. One of its signature attractions, however, will still be missing when that transformation begins.

The closure is part of a broader technical reset for the ride, which debuted more than a decade ago and now sits at the center of Disney’s push to modernize its screen-based attractions.

A Major Pixar Attraction Undergoes a Reset

Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy opened at Walt Disney Studios Park in July 2014. It was Pixar’s first major theme park attraction in Europe and was built around Place de Rémy, a fully themed Parisian street inspired by the film’s setting.

The ride places guests inside trackless rat-shaped vehicles and shrinks them into Rémy’s world. Large projection screens, physical sets, heat, water, and scent effects simulate a frantic run through Gusteau’s kitchen and dining room.

A second version opened at EPCOT in October 2021. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure followed the same layout and technology but featured changes to the queue, façade, and story elements to fit EPCOT’s France pavilion.

Both versions relied heavily on 3D projection. Over time, image softness and brightness became more noticeable, particularly compared with newer attractions built with higher-resolution display systems.

EPCOT’s version closed in November 2025 so Disney could remove its 3D elements and introduce “brighter, sharper imagery.” The update also included new props and lighting in both the queue and ride.

The Paris version is now receiving the same treatment. During its closure, Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy has had its 3D removed, with new projectors installed to improve image clarity.

Disney is also adding an enhanced queue featuring a new scene inspired by a Parisian artist’s studio. Inside the attraction, additional physical props are being installed to increase depth and reduce reliance on screen-only environments.

Rather than spread these changes out over years, Disneyland Paris is completing them in a single refurbishment window, delivering a fully updated ride when it reopens.

The Reopening Date Creates an Unusual Gap

When Disney closed the ride, it only said it would return in spring 2026. We now have a clearer idea of its reopening date in April.

That date falls nearly two weeks after Walt Disney Studios Park officially becomes Disney Adventure World on March 29, 2026.

On that day – which will see Extra Magic Time axed for Disney Adventure Worldthe park will open World of Frozen, including Frozen Ever After and new dining and retail locations. It will also debut Adventure Way, a new promenade leading to the park’s central lake, Adventure Bay.

Adventure Bay will host Disney Cascade of Lights, a nighttime show using drones and projection technology to evoke Moana, Hercules, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Adventure Way will also include Raiponce Tangled Spin, a Tangled-themed spinner ride, and The Regal View Restaurant & Lounge, a new character dining location.

Despite those additions, Disney Adventure World will launch with one of its most popular attractions still closed.
