For more than a year, Disney has been in a heated battle with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Things began with Disney speaking out against a controversial bill in the state and ended with the Governor stripping Disney of its ability to self-govern the area where Walt Disney World Resort is housed. Things have now only gone from bad to worse. The governor has threatened to build another theme park or a prison next to Walt Disney World. Disney CEO Bob Iger, however, has stood firm and has called DeSantis “anti-Florida”.
Many Floridians are tired of the back and forth between Disney and DeSantis — as are other politicians. Some of those politicians are even encouraging Disney to move The Most Magical Place on Earth out of the state it has been in for more than 50 years. One of those politicians is North Carolina State Senator Michael Garrett.
On April 19, Garrett introduced the Mickey’s Freedom Restoration Act. The act would allow North Carolina to invest $750,000 into research dedicated to bringing Disney to North Carolina. Walt Disney World Resort consumes more than 27,000 acres and consists of four theme parks, two water parks, and Disney Springs. So, moving it to another state would be no easy task.
When the bill was made public, Disney fans had a fun time imagining the ways that Disney could just up and move the theme parks to another state. Fans took to social media to share fun “actual footage” videos of such a move.

Disney has not commented on the bill or Garrett’s proposal. Bob Iger has said that Disney plans to spend nearly $17 billion on Walt Disney World Resort over the next 10 years. He also said they plan to hire thousands more Floridians to work in the Parks. However, Iger has not said if those plans have changed now with the governor’s continuing attacks.
