For two weeks, nearly all of the Hollywood film and television industry has been almost completely shut down. On July 14, the Screen Actors Guild announced that its more than 160,000 members would be going on strike. The SAG-AFTRA strike came just two months after the Writers Guild of America announced that its members would also be striking. Since the dual strikes began, film and television productions have been at levels not seen since the height of the pandemic. The studios are losing thousands of dollars per day, but neither side is willing to back down.
There are several key issues that the studios and the unions cannot come to an agreement on. One of those issues is streaming residuals. Residuals are monies paid to people involved in the making of movies or television shows in cases of reruns, DVD/Blu-ray sales, syndication, streaming media, or generative AI. Since the strike began, many have been revealing how much they have received in residuals, and the numbers are shocking. This Is Us, and The Princess Diaries star Mandy Moore revealed that one time she received a check for one penny.
Now, a Disney star has revealed the insulting residual check he received from the House of Mouse.
For three years, Robert Carradine played Sam McGuire on the hit Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire. Both seasons of Lizzie McGuire are available to stream on Disney+. So is The Lizzie McGuire Movie, which Carradine also appeared in. In a recent Instagram post, Carradine shared a picture of a residual check he received from Disney in 2019. The check was for zero dollars and zero cents.
Why we’re striking…

Many followers were shocked that Disney actually had the gall to insult the “greatest Disney dad” and send a check for zero dollars. Others couldn’t believe that Disney would spend the money to mail the check. It cost them more to mail the check than the check was worth.
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis commented on the post, simply saying, “PERFECT.” Curtis has worked with Disney in the past, starring alongside Lindsay Lohan in the film Freaky Friday. She also currently starts as Madame Leota in Disney’s newest live-action film, Haunted Mansion.
This latest post from Carradine only represents a fraction of the backlash Disney is getting with regard to the SAG-AFTRA strike. The day before the actors hit the picket lines, Disney CEO Bob Iger went on CNBC and said that some of SAG’s demands were not “realistic.” Iger has been called out by a number of actors and SAG President Fran Drescher for his comments, with Drescher calling Iger “an ignoramus.”
