Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is on its way out, and guests are noticing some glaring maintenance issues on the Walt Disney World Resort attraction before its highly anticipated retheme. The Disney’s Hollywood Studios coaster, which has thrilled guests since 1999, is showing signs of wear as its closure date remains unannounced.
A Ride Past Its Prime
For years, rumors circulated that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster would be rethemed to a new intellectual property. Speculation intensified after Disneyland Paris overhauled its version of the ride into Avengers Assemble: Flight Force in 2022. The aging attraction has also faced controversy due to allegations against Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, making its continued presence in the park even more questionable.
In November 2024, Walt Disney World Resort confirmed that the Muppets would replace Aerosmith in an upcoming retheme. The change is part of a larger renovation effort at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which will also see Muppet*Vision 3D and Muppets Courtyard close to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. (2001)-themed area.
Visible Decay in the Queue
While an official closure date has yet to be announced, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s current state has left many guests wondering whether Disney has already checked out on the ride’s maintenance. During a recent visit, a Disney Fanatic team member spotted peeling paint and an uneven, deteriorating ceiling panel inside the attraction’s queue.
Historically, Walt Disney World Resort has been quick to address cosmetic wear and tear, but this time, the ride’s apparent neglect is raising eyebrows. Previous damage in the queue, including peeled paint and guest-carved messages in the plaster, had been repaired. Still, the ride’s current state suggests Disney may be letting some issues slide until its transformation begins.
The Future of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
Muppet*Vision 3D is set to close on June 7, 2025, but Walt Disney World Resort has yet to reveal when Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will shut its doors for the last time. Until then, Disney Park guests can still experience the high-speed thrills of the ride—but they may have to look past some signs of aging.
