On Memorial Day Weekend, Rumors Spread Disney is Replacing the American Flag With a Pride Flag

The internet is a vast wasteland, filled with unchecked stories and cat videos. Lots of cat videos. But in today’s world, it’s easy to raise the internet’s anger with just a few simple words, even if the story is entirely false. In this case, it was a story about the American flag and Disney World, and then we were off to the races.

The story in question showed alleged “proof” that Disney World was removing all the American flags on the property and replacing them with Pride Flags. This was in preparation for the start of Pride Month in June. And the internet exploded with a response, but if someone had taken the time actually to read the story, it would have been very easy to find the truth.

USA Today reported that the story and corresponding video were posted by an outlet called “Mouse Trap News.” The vast majority of the comments on the video/story are hostile toward Disney, and people are vowing to “never return” if this is true. However, if they happened to scroll down to the bottom of the page, readers would have realized that the story is a complete farce.

The account posted the Twitter handle #fakeDisneyNews and described itself as “Real Disney News that is 100% fake.” As it turned out, this was just another attempt to gaslight people online using a fake story.

Disneyland will host a Pride Night in June, and the Walt Disney World Resort will host its Gay Days from May 31 to June 4.

Mouse Trap News also reported that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had sent the National Guard to block the entrance to Walt Disney World. The site has used satire to attack the Governor and his supporters over their reaction to the Walt Disney Company speaking out on Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law.

Recently, Bud Light and Target have faced online backlash over their Pride Month activities, and Disney was about to join them in this uproar. But USA Today reached out to Disney to confirm that this story was fake, and the Disney Company said there are no changes to its flag procedures. So, there is no need to get upset; this was just a prank by a “news” organization known for putting out fake stories to rile the masses.

The American flag will not be leaving Disney World anytime soon or replaced by a Pride Flag. This is just another fake social media story that is out to ruin your Memorial Day.
