Disney vs. DeSantis: Did Governor DeSantis Send the National Guard to Block Entrances to Disney World?

The Disney vs. DeSantis feud is all many have been able to talk about recently, and for good reason. From its outset with the “Don’t Say Gay” debacle, every development in the fight has certainly made waves—be that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s decision to dissolve the Reedy Creek Improvement District and board and replace it with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, complete with a hand-picked board. The biggest move that has been continuing to make headlines lately, however, is the Walt Disney Company—more specifically, the Walt Disney World Resort—suing Governor Ron DeSantis.

In the midst of this, many states have thrown their hats in the ring, inviting Disney to come take residence there in case they ever want to leave Florida because of these events. Candidates include Texas, the Tar Heel state, North Carolina, and most recently, even South Carolina.

But while all this has been happening, a more drastic allegation was making the rounds.

Governor DeSantis has officially responded to Disney’s lawsuit. But alongside this, there were also rumors floating around that the Governor did more than just issue a statement. A few days ago, it was reported that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called in the National Guard to block all entrances to the Walt Disney World Resort.

The article claimed that ” Anyone who wants to visit Disney World now needs to go through the National Guard first” and that the situation was “a lot like US border checkpoints.” It also stated that the move was meant to “put additional pressure on Disney to rethink their woke agenda and go back to being a company for families.”

Ultimately, we’re here to tell you that the article that has been circulating is from a satirical news site and is completely false. While the Florida National Guard can be deployed on either state or federal missions, there is no data backing up the claim that they could be deployed in this kind of situation.

More importantly, the Guard themselves have spoken out, dismissing the rumor. A Florida National Guard spokesperson wrote in response to a request for comment by Snopes, “There is no truth to this claim. The Florida National Guard has not been activated for such a mission.”
