Real Marvel Actors Are Starring In A Groundbreaking Show on The Disney Wish

If you’ve already been considering booking a cruise on the new Disney Wish cruise ship next year, now is the time–because there is a Marvel dining experience planned that is going to be the “first-of-its-kind Dining Adventure aboard the Disney Wish”! The Disney Cruise Line had already “shared new details about the epic Avengers: Quantum Encounter show…for Worlds of Marvel, the fleet’s most ambitious dining experience ever, premiering aboard the Disney Wish next summer”. We had already heard about the story and characters that would be appearing on screens in the Marvel restaurant while Guests dined–but now we’re also actually learning that the real actors for several Marvel characters are taking part in this Disney cruise ship show!

The actors returning to reprise their roles for the Avengers Quantum Encounter are Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and Brie Larson as Captain Marvel! Apparently “Kerry Condon will also reprise her role as the voice of F.R.I.D.A.Y., and actor Ross Marquand will lend his villainous vocal skills to Ultron”. We have some teaser images here of what this might look like below, and we have to say that the Marvel restaurant and hyperspace lounge looks amazingly futuristic and interactive–not unlike Star Wars sets, but with its own Marvel signatures!

Disney dining is already impressive when it comes to menus and restaurant decor, but the fact that Disney Wish passengers will actually get to feel like they’re experiencing “a real-life Avengers mission as they watch some of their favorite heroes in action” is truly groundbreaking. It seems like the actors acted out their roles via motion capture, and are going to be portrayed on the Disney Wish in hologram form!

Apparently this one-of-a-kind show “will follow Ant-Man and The Wasp as they host a presentation of the most powerful Super Hero technologies in the world, including a hands-on demonstration of the latest and greatest Pym Tech. But when Ultron turns up with an army of robot sentries eager to take control of this world-changing technology, Ant-Man and The Wasp will need all the help they can get to save the day – calling on Captain America, Captain Marvel and even the brave diners of the Disney Wish for back-up. Oh, and there’s one more Super Hero who will make a surprise appearance during the show”. We’ll be interested to see who that additional mystery superhero is, but we’re expecting that it will be a fan favorite like Ironman or perhaps Loki!

Apparently some of the technology that the superheroes will be demonstrating are “Captain America’s shield, Iron Man’s arc reactor and Ant-Man’s Pym Particles”. This will give “the audience an up-close look at holographic models, field reports and iconic scenes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe displayed on the screens surrounding the room”.

The star in the storyline will be “the Quantum Core, which uses cutting-edge (and highly unstable) technology to shrink and grow targets at the push of a button”. According to a previous Disney Parks Blog post, “a few “misfires” will result in hilarious Ant-Man-style hijinks, but the real trouble begins when an unexpected villain [Ultron] shows up with a fearsome army in tow, eager to get their hands on this powerful quantum technology”. Each table at the restaurant will have its own Quantum Core, meaning that you’ll get to interact a lot with the Marvel characters, as Ant-Man and The Wasp “attempt some small-scale trials” that will probably be good for some laughs. Then, “when enough of the Quantum Cores are activated at the same time, the entire venue will become supercharged as energy pulses through the power channels in the walls and ceiling”. We can’t wait to see that finale! A plot point like that also means that most diners are going to get a superhero visit at their table!

A lot of work went into making “this action-packed spectacle” happen. The restaurant has “immersive cinematic technology, including hundreds of screens and special effects embedded throughout”. Furthermore, “because most of the battle takes place on the upper decks of the ship, [ Walt Disney Imagineering is] actually re-creating it in photo-realistic CGI while the real Disney Wish is still under construction”. Walt Disney Imagineering is outdoing itself once again! Apparently the actors have already wrapped filming for this show, and everything is in post-production; surprisingly, none of the actors have shared the news on social media. We suspect that most Guests will be too entertained to focus as much on their food, but for those who are wondering, the unfinished menu will include foods from “African Wakanda, Eastern European Sokovia and the Avengers’ home base of New York City”. We’re not sure if other Disney Cruise Line cruise ships like the Disney Dream will eventually get the Avengers Quantum Experience, but for now it seems like this is an exclusive Disney Wish adventure!
