Six-Year-Old Disney Roller Coaster Operating in Damaged State

Slinky Dog Dash is showing visible signs of wear, and Walt Disney World Resort doesn’t appear to have a repair plan. New photos from the Disney Fanatic team reveal concerning damage, leading some to question the Central Florida theme park’s maintenance priorities.

Slinky Dog Dash, the headliner attraction of Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, has been delighting guests since its grand opening in June 2018. The family-friendly coaster, designed to feel like Andy assembled it using his “Dash & Dodge Mega Coaster Kit,” immerses riders in a backyard adventure filled with oversized toys. However, recent visits have revealed that the ride’s once-pristine theming is beginning to show its age.

Despite its popularity—often boasting some of the longest wait times at Disney’s Hollywood Studios—the ride queue is suffering from a noticeable decline. Props that resemble stickers and decals from the roller coaster assembly kit have deteriorated, exposing plain surfaces underneath.

The damage is especially apparent near the standby and Lightning Lane merge point, where peeling paint and worn-down stickers give the area an unfinished look.

Aging Attractions in Need of Attention

While the peeling stickers and fading paint do not affect the rider experience, they do impact the immersive experience Walt Disney World Resort strives to create. The issue appears to result from years of guest interaction, as some visitors have taken to picking at the faux stickers, gradually chipping away at the detailing.

Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated issue. Other Walt Disney World Resort attractions have exhibited similar signs of wear, often waiting months or even years before receiving necessary touch-ups. While Disney routinely refurbishes rides for mechanical reasons, minor, aesthetic details like this frequently go overlooked unless a major update is scheduled.

There are currently no announced plans to address the cosmetic damage at Slinky Dog Dash. This raises concerns among parkgoers who expect Disney’s standards for immersion and upkeep to be maintained across all attractions. With spring break and summer crowds fast approaching, many wonder when or if Walt Disney World Resort will take action.
