Amid ongoing conversations about hygiene standards at the Disney parks, some Disneyland Resort guests say the Southern California theme park is neglecting its oldest Star Wars attraction: Star Tours – The Adventure Continues.
Disneyland Resort collaborated with George Lucas for Star Tours in 1987, long before The Walt Disney Company bought Lucasfilm or considered building Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Walt Disney Imagineers later created versions for Walt Disney World Resort‘s Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disneyland Paris, and Tokyo Disneyland. In 2011, Walt Disney Imagineering updated Star Tours to its current version, Star Tours – The Adventure Continues. All versions received the upgrade throughout the 2010s.
As reports indicate increased cleanliness and hygiene problems throughout the Disney parks, some guests say Disneyland Resort is neglecting the decades-old Star Wars simulator. In a recent Reddit conversation, u/FedorsQuest recalled seeing “7-inch tall dust piles in Star Tours just above your head when you’re in line.”
“It literally looks like no one has [wiped] anything down in 10 years, really sad and infuriating as it would prob just take an hour for two or three people to dust it,” the Disney Park guest wrote.
Other Disney Parks fans noticed the dirt on Star Tours, too.
“I saw that but under the impression it was part of the scene, considering it was in the area with all the broken down, previous droid versions,” u/Inevitable-Ear5313 replied.
“This fact is mildly infuriating to me,” said u/arrow951.
“I was an overnight custodial [cast member] 20 years ago, and Star Tours was my ride. I was the one responsible for cleaning and maintaining that queue line every night. Vacuuming, scrubbing the carpets, wiping down every rail, getting down with the droids and making sure everything was presentable… and yes, dusting those rails – every night! It really hurts my heart to see how things have changed over the years.”
u/lemonsweetsrevenge said Star Tours isn’t the only Star Wars ride facing custodial neglect:
“You know the little holding cage they put you in for Rise of the Resistance, after you’ve been taken for interrogation? If you walk to the back of the holding area (where it gets skinny) and look up, they’ve already got some major hanging swirls of dust.”
Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort guests can report hygiene or cleanliness issues to Guest Services. Feedback helps the Disney theme parks improve!
