For decades, Star Wars has been defined by trilogies. From the original films to the prequels and sequels, each generation of storytelling has been framed as a set of three. But that tradition ended after The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, and Lucasfilm has yet to announce another trilogy for the big screen.
Now, a surprising heir to the format has emerged — not in theaters, but on Disney+.
The first trailer for Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 showcases the three episodes in the anthology that will serve as sequels, forming the first “trilogy of sequels” in the franchise since the sequel era ended. The lineup includes “The Duel: Payback”, a continuation of the Ronin’s story from “The Duel”; “The Lost Ones”, which extends “The Village Bride”; and “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope”, a direct follow-up to Kara’s story from “The Ninth Jedi”.
Together, these three episodes create a set of continuations that stand apart from the franchise’s current film slate. Watch the first official trailer for Volume 3 below:

On the big screen, Lucasfilm seems more focused on stand-alone projects.
The Mandalorian & Grogu will arrive in May, 2026, as a continuation of the Disney+ series but one that’s also being treated as its own story. Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, is confirmed for 2027 and is a post-sequel era adventure with no ties to the Skywalker saga. Daisy Ridley’s untitled Rey project is still reportedly in development but has not been touted as the beginning of a trilogy.
That leaves Star Wars Visions: Volume 3 as the only project currently structured as a trilogy of sequels (the overall series itself can soon be considered a trilogy). It’s a notable development for an anthology that began as a collection of unconnected shorts. Since its 2021 debut, Visions has drawn attention for bold visuals and inventive takes on the galaxy far, far away, but this is the first time continuity has been built into its format.
All nine episodes of Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 will debut on Disney+ October 29. Beyond that, Lucasfilm has also announced Star Wars: Visions Presents, beginning with a full series based on The Ninth Jedi, expected in 2026.
