A Notice of Commencement filed through Disney's Facility Asset Management division listed a general construction project. The filing gained attention because Disney selected D.H. Griffin Wrecking Company as the contractor.
The company has worked on various Disney projects over the years, including efforts connected to Disney Skyliner and other resort infrastructure improvements. Even so, seeing a demolition-focused company attached to the permit immediately fueled speculation.
Observers debated whether Disney planned bridge work, moat maintenance, or some other construction project in the area.
The answer eventually became clear.
Guests Discover the Missing Towers
Visitors arriving at Magic Kingdom recently found that several themed towers near the entrance to Tomorrowland had been demolished.
The removal dramatically changed the entrance's appearance and created a large, open space where the structures once stood.
Although Disney has not publicly explained the exact purpose of the demolition, many fans believe the work may be connected to projects around Cinderella Castle and the surrounding moat area.

Disney has announced plans to refresh Carousel of Progress while preserving the attraction's historic connection to Walt Disney. The reimagining will update scenes and introduce a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic figure during the attraction's opening sequence.
The attraction is expected to close in July as Disney begins construction.
