The Trailer and Teaser Images For Tom Holland’s ‘Uncharted’ Movie Have Been Released

Indiana Jones or video game enthusiasts have been waiting with bated breath for news about ‘Uncharted', the Sony Pictures movie that is going to be based on the award-winning “Uncharted” Naughty Dog video game series. The “Uncharted” series, which follows wisecracking treasure hunter Nathan Drake and his friends on action-packed adventures all over the globe, has weathered several different moviemaking attempts over the years with none panning out until now. Many fans were disappointed to learn that the movie finally being made is not actually an adaptation of any of the games (and that Nathan Fillion, an actor who wanted the role so badly that he made a bona fide ‘Uncharted' movie on his own, is not playing the lead), but that the film is an original prequel about Nathan Drake and his mentor Victor Sullivan before any of the games actually happened. However, Marvel fans can rejoice, because the actor playing young Nathan is Tom Holland from ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home‘!

The prequel has gone through several delays, as is usual with any “Uncharted” movie attempt, but the film has finally been given a tentative release date of February 18th 2022. Tom Holland spoke to GQ about the movie recently and shared several exciting tidbits about the film, but a movie trailer and several stills from the movie have also been released–including one particularly exciting photo that shows Nolan North, the fan-favorite voice actor who is most famous for playing Nathan Drake originally, chatting with Tom Holland.

When it comes to the movie's plot, it's clear from the images that this prequel will have the video games' signature style. Weathered maps, ancient tomes, and medieval tombs are very much the games' bread and butter. We do know from Tom Holland that some of the story is set in Germany, Berlin specifically. In the movie trailer, the explorer Magellan is mentioned, so viewers can expect that the treasure hunt will involve his legacy (the games' main treasures involved Marco Polo, T. E. Lawrence, and–of course–Sir Francis Drake). Oftentimes Nathan Drake ends up in jungles or by the sea, and although the teaser images show stone tombs and cathedrals, it looks like we'll also get some exotic locales that are more in keeping with “Uncharted”!

From the images shown, we can surmise that this treasure hunt will most likely involve some religious figures, religious organizations, or sacred items in addition to Magellan. Video gamers will also appreciate the cinematic style, such as in the picture of two crosses on a table, that fits in very well with the video games' usual opening scenes.

When it comes to Nathan Drake's father figure, Victor Sullivan, the casting of Mark Wahlberg was a very controversial one among “Uncharted” video game fans. However, upon seeing the images of Wahlberg as Sully–adorned with Sully's signature mustache (at least on the movie poster, although he's strangely clean-shaven in the trailer) and swagger, as well as the green shirt shown below that's one of his signature outfits–it looks like the actor might be more up to the task than fans expected! Other cast members include Sophia Taylor Ali as Chloe Frazer (Nathan's love interest from “Uncharted 2”, who also starred in the standalone “Uncharted 5: The Lost Legacy”), Tati Gabrielle as the villain's henchwoman, and Antonio Banderas as the villainous competing treasure hunter.

Tom Holland himself beefed up quite a bit for the role after meeting Mark on set and realizing that he looked diminutive next to the action hero, and that's definitely going to be evident in the movie's action sequences! He also trained as a bartender, unofficially, because Nathan is a bartender for part of the film (which we can see in the second image below). Are you a fan of Nathan Drake? Are you excited to see this prequel–especially since fan-favorite Chloe Frazer is also in the film, and since Nathan's brother Sam Drake (another fan-favorite) should be making an appearance?
