From a star-studded LA event to a groundbreaking American Idol performance, The Little Mermaid’s live-action remake has made waves in the media throughout the last week.
Halle Bailey (Ariel) earned high praise from critics like Critic Zoë Rose Bryant following the LA premiere, stating:
“#TheLittleMermaid is a live-action remake that retains the heart and soul of the story we know and love, and it’s elevated even further by a note-perfect star-making performance from Halle Bailey – she was born to be on the big screen, & she’s why this new take is worth watching.”

With more Little Mermaid love rising to the surface, the cast swam overseas to London’s Odeon Luxe Cinema in Leicester Square for the UK premiere. Bailey has been shelling out glamorous looks left and right—from a shining gown at the LA premiere to an ocean-blue dress at Disneyland for her American Idol performance—and the London premiere was no exception.
Dripping in diamante details lining a plunging white gown by Miss Sohee, Bailey shined as the (little) leading lady. Ariel wasn’t the only stunner in the cast, with Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy, Noma Dumezweni, and Art Malik looking dapper on the blue carpet.
Recently announced as the actress behind Ariel’s sister, Indira, Bridgerton star Simone Ashley shined in a pastel Victoria Beckham gown with sheer details, which was sheer perfection.

Another mermaid sister, Sienna King (Tamika), stood out in pearl white as she embraced Melissa McCarthy (Ursula), who looked like anything but an evil sea witch in her fuchsia gown.

The crew emerged behind the camera to see their masterpiece in action, including the film’s director and producer, Rob Marshall, Marc Platt and John DeLuca, composer Alan Menken, and executive producer Jeffrey Silver.
Like the LA premiere, the London event featured local celebrities supporting the highly-anticipated film. Sabrina Elba, former Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore, new Big Brother host AJ Odudu, Stanley Tucci, Guy Ritchie, and Stormzy were noteworthy attendees.
While the cameras caught the famous guests on the blue carpet, speculations grew about costars Halle Bailey (Ariel) and Jonah Hauer-King (Prince Eric), who held hands and embraced each other on the carpet. Bailey has been rumored to be in a relationship with rapper DDG, but the sweet moments captured by the film’s stars bode well for their chemistry on-screen.
