It’s not often that a holiday film remains a cultural fixture for over 30 years, but The Muppet Christmas Carol has managed just that. Released in 1992 and directed by Brian Henson, the film continues to define how generations view Charles Dickens’ timeless tale.
Michael Caine’s performance as the merry-less miser Ebenezer Scrooge remains a benchmark for the role, while the Muppets — led by Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and The Great Gonzo — inject warmth and humour into a tale about redemption and compassion.

Fans will be delighted to know that, later this month, the film will return to the West End in fitting fashion. The Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square has confirmed that it will once again host screenings throughout the entire holiday season, giving fans multiple chances to revisit the beloved 1992 masterpiece. Both sing-along and standard screenings are on the calendar, ensuring that viewers can enjoy the experience in their own way.
The film's many musical numbers, from “One More Sleep Till Christmas” to “Thankful Heart,” give the film a theatricality that continues to resonate with families every year. With a full orchestral version also touring select U.K. venues this winter, for the fifth consecutive year in a row, it’s clear that the film’s appeal extends far beyond the screen.

Tickets for the Prince Charles Cinema run are available online, and for those unable to attend, the film is streaming on Disney+, which also features the version with the restored song “When Love Is Gone.”
Meanwhile, Disney also recently released two collectible advent calendars inspired by the holiday classic — one with 12 plushies and one with 24 pins. Elsewhere, punk-rock band Fall Out Boy has released a cover of the song “It Feels Like Christmas” for the Spotify Singles Holiday series. Clearly, The Muppet Christmas Carol remains as influential as ever.
The Muppet Christmas Carol stars Kermit the Frog/Bob Cratchit (Steve Whitmire), Miss Piggy/Emily Cratchit (Frank Oz), The Great Gonzo/Charles Dickens/Narrator (Dave Goelz), Fozzie Bear/Fozziewig (Frank Oz), and Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Caine).
