Tom Holland, Other Marvel Stars, Top Fan Picks for Next James Bond

Who is going to be the next James Bond?

Yes, I know this is a site about Disney news, but the answer to that question may involve someone very close to the hearts of all Disney fans. Including, possibly, Tom Holland, Chris Hemsworth, and Michale B Jordan.

Another round of debate regarding the successor of the call-sign 007 was sparked on Twitter today when this fan-picked “short list” was shared by @Naija_PR:

As you can see, several Disney and Marvel stars, and one Star Wars alum, are included. Going from top-left to bottom-right, let’s take a look at the Disney connections of these actors.

Idris Elba joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as the far-seeing Asgardian gatekeeper Heimdall for Marvel’s Thor franchise. He also lent his iconic voice to Disney to play the ferocious tiger Shere Khan for Jon Favreau’s live-action retelling of The Jungle Book and the intimidating but lovable water buffalo Chief Bogo in ZootopiaHe also played the hilarious seal Fluke in Disney-Pixar’s Finding Dory.

Daniel Kaluuya stood alongside the late great Chadwick Bozeman (King T’Challa) as W’Kabi in Marvel’s Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. He is tentatively scheduled to reprise his role in the upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Michael B Jordan also crashed onto the MCU as the beloved Black Panther supervillain Erik Killmonger, a role which he reprised in Marvel’s animated Disney+ series, What If..?. He is the only actor born and raised in America to make this list. Ever since Sir Ian Fleming published the first novel, Casino Royale, Bond has been portrayed as and by a British man. Although, Daniel Craig has gone on record to say he has become an American Citizen.

John Boyega brought the AWOL stormtrooper Fin to life for the Star Wars sequel trilogy–The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker–as well as in the Disney Theme Parks.

Tom Holland is the youngest actor on this list, by several years, and also the shortest. Holland swung his way into the hearts of Disney fans everywhere by introducing Spider-Man to the MCU as Tony Stark/Iron Man’s latest recruit in Captain America: Civil War, and has gone on to redefine Peter Parker on screen by reprising the web-slinger in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and most recently, Spider-Man No Way Home. Like Elba, he also found his way into voicing new Disney characters, starring as Ian Lightfoot alongside Chris Pratt’s Barley in Disney Pixar’s Onward.

Chris Hemsworth is Thor, the god of thunder, and that is not going to stop anytime soon with Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 already underway. Like Jordan, Hemsworth is not British. He is Australian.

Tom Hardy has reignited fans’ love for the alien anti-hero, Venom, playing the parasite-ridden reporter Eddie Brock in Marvel’s Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Every actor listed is known for playing intense, action-oriented roles, and knowing how to look good in a tuxedo. Two critical factors when considering who should carry the next stage of the James Bond franchise. And other familiar stars like Tom Hiddleston(Loki) and Harry Styles(The Eternals) have been unofficially nominated to the part. With the latest Bond Film, No Time To Die, only just reaching streaming platforms, it might be some time until we see Daniel Craig’s heir emerge.

Sir Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Sir Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig. Seven 007s over the course of 25 films. Now it’s time to look for Bond #8, and we can’t help but dig around our proverbial toy chest of Disney/Marvel/Star Wars heroes. It’s only a question of “Who?”

Do you think any of these Disney/Marvel/Star Wars stars should play the new James Bond? If so, who? Let us know in the comments!
