The fourth gate at Disney World is home to a lot of fun experiences featuring cultures from around the world, as well as animals for guests to learn more about and see close up. Even though Animal Kingdom still suffers from the belief that it is only a half day park before the opening of the Land of Pandora. Even though it suffers from that description, there is much to see and do and enjoy – here is our list of our top twenty experiences at Animal Kingdom!
20 – Gorilla Falls – the recently renamed-Pangani Forest Exploration Trails in Africa allows guests to discover animals that grace the continent of Africa. From hippos, smaller monkeys, and to the namesake gorillas, we love this self-guided tour when we need a break and want to take our time experiencing the park!
19 – Finding Nemo: The Musical – located between Asia and Dinoland, Finding Nemo: the Musical invites guests into an inventive stage show featuring larger-than-life puppets and your favorite songs from the movie. We also love taking a break there on the hot days or when it is raining!
18 – Spin on Primeval Whirl – if you are a person who likes a little bit of a thrill ride, try this spinning coaster in DinoLand! We love spinning around on this coaster – just make sure that you haven’t had too much to eat before climbing aboard!
17 – Facing the Carnatorous – DINOSAUR takes guests on a wild journey through the age of dinosaurs. We love taking a ride and facing down the Carnatorous at the end of your journey and helping bring back the Iguanadon!
16 – Dining at Flame Tree BBQ – we love grabbing a quick bite at Flame Tree – they have some phenomenal barbecue and some great sit-down view out over the water if you have some extra time to enjoy your meal. We also love the fact that they accept the Tables in Wonderland discount!
15 – Living a Bug’s Life – we love this 3D show that takes place in the theatre beneath the Tree of Life. We particularly love the “interactive” elements of the show, so be sure to stay focused so you don’t miss them!
14 – Flights of Wonder – we love this educational show about birds from across the planet. We love Guano Joe and the comedy that he brings to the show, but we also love seeing some of the tricks and learning about various issues facing birds throughout the world.
13 – Tackling Kali River Rapids – when it is really hot, we don’t mind getting completely soaked on this ride! We love the details in the queue and trying to figure out if we are going to get drenched on the ride or if we will stay dry. Be sure to put your valuables in the free lockers at the beginning of the ride!
12 – Discovery Island Trails – when we need a break, we love taking a stroll around the trails on Discovery Island and around the Tree Life and take a look at the animals, carvings, and streams. Be sure to take your time and explore what there is!
11 – Character Interactions – Animal Kingdom has a wide array of character interactions – characters are constantly on the move, so be sure to grab a Times Guide and a map so you can see where and when your favorites are greeting guests! We love finding new characters to get a picture with!
10 – Climbing the Forbidden Mountain – Expedition Everest is one of the most intense roller coasters on Disney property – we love grabbing a seat in the front of the train and going on a journey through the high peaks and meeting the Yeti face-to-face. As many times as we have done it, we still haven’t prepared ourselves for the backwards portion of the coaster!
9 – Table Service Options – it can be difficult for our group to choose between Tusker House and Yak and Yeti when we are inside of the park – both offer some great options for guests. Our choices have gotten even more complicated recently with the addition of Tiffins (we haven’t had a chance to sample the menu yet, but we hear it is fantastic!)
8 – Festival of the Lion King – this stage show is amazing – we love signing along with the songs from the movie and watching the performers as they mesmerize guests with a combination of dance and gymnastics. This is also another great place to escape to if it is a very hot or rainy day when you visit!
7 – Exploring Harambe Market – don’t have time to have a full table service meal when you are at the park? That’s OK – head to Harambe Market and you can have a choice of diverse menu featuring sausage, ribs, and deliciously inventive drinks. We love the food court feel, but appreciate that guests can get whatever they choose from any of the windows!
6 – Conservation Station – take a relaxing train ride to Conservation Station and you can learn about the efforts that Cast Members go to to care for the animals that call this park home. You can also meet and greet some animals in their petting zoo!
5 – Jungle Book Show – a recent addition to the nightly entertainment, this show is modeled off of the new movie and has received many positive reviews! We can’t wait to see this before Rivers of Light calls the park home this summer!
4 – Sunset Safaris – guests are invited to enjoy the savanna in a new way with the sunset safaris. Guests will get to see animals in a different light on this tour and may also get to glimpse some of the new animals!
3 – Drinks at the Dawa Bar – one of our favorite hidden gems, the Dawa Bar is a great place to pull up a stool and enjoy a cool drink on a hot day or while you are waiting for your table to be called at Tusker House. If you are there early in the morning, be sure to grab a Beermosa! It may sound weird, but it is a great way to start the day!
