On April 4, TRON Lightcycle/Run will finally open at Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom Park, nearly five years after the attraction was first announced. TRON will take Guests on a trip through the Grid as they ride motorcycle-type vehicles. The new attraction will be almost an exact replica of the ride that has been open at the Shanghai Disneyland Resort since 2016. Guests have been looking forward to the attraction since it was announced, and it is certain to be one of Magic Kingdom’s most popular rides.

Disney has confirmed that, when TRON Lightcycle/Run opens, it will use the virtual queue system that has become the norm with new Disney attractions. As in the past, a virtual queue for TRON will open twice per day — once at 7 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. On days when the Magic Kingdom is open late for Deluxe Resort Guests, the queue will also open at 6 p.m.

For those who want to join the queue at 7 a.m., you can join from anywhere. However, if you want to join the queue at 1 p.m., you must be in the Magic Kingdom. Deluxe Resort Guests who will be in the Parks late also do not have to be in the Magic Kingdom to join the 6 p.m. virtual queue.

While it was expected that TRON would use a virtual queue, Disney has announced that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will continue to use a virtual queue, even after TRON opens. That means that Guests with a Park Hopper ticket will have to choose which attraction they want to ride more. Disney only allows Guests to be in one virtual queue at a time, so it’s not possible to be in a queue for both TRON Lightcycle/Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

Now, it is possible that the demand for TRON could make the need for a virtual queue for Cosmic Rewind a moot point. Disney is not above quickly getting rid of a virtual queue if demand for a boarding group is not as high. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Mickey’s ToonTown at Disneyland Resort opened in later January. Just one month later, Disney announced that the ride would no longer need a virtual queue.

If you are unable to join a boarding group for TRON or Cosmic Rewind, individual Lightning Lane purchases can still be made, as long as they are available.
