Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s feud with the Walt Disney Company is practically all anyone can talk about at the moment. The fight has raged on for over a year; what began with the “Don’t Say Gay” debacle, known by opponents as the Parental Rights in Education Act, has turned into a full-blown legal battle with Disney suing Governor DeSantis. Disney stated that DeSantis’s actions, including the dissolution of the Reedy Creek Improvement District board and replacement of it with the Central Florida Tourism District board, and the board’s decision to void the infamous agreement that essentially rendered the board helpless, was retaliation for Disney exercising its free speech. DeSantis’s board has now filed a counter-suit to uphold the voided agreement.
Needless to say, there’s a lot happening. All of this has even caused enough of an issue that reports were going around that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had deployed the National Guard to block all entrances to Walt Disney World Resort in retaliation for everything that had transpired thus far.
But this issue affects more than just DeSantis’s dealings with the Walt Disney Company. Per a recent poll, it appears that the GOP presidential hopeful has been affected by his feud with Disney concerning his candidacy as well.
Per a recent poll shared by journalist Scott Gustin, there’s a marked correlation (not necessarily causation) between the start of the “King Charles Clause” headlines and the popularity of Governor DeSantis as a presidential candidate.
In the graph seen below, it’s apparent that beginning March 29, 2023, which is when the headlines started, there has been a steady decline in the average for DeSantis’s performance in the 2024 primary polls. The graph accounts for each poll’s quality, sample size, and frequency.

Fans in the comments deliberated the relationship between the Disney feud and DeSantis’s presidential nomination. One shared, “This has more to do with Trump putting a lid on Desantis to keep him from running then Disney hitting him. The base being polled here isn’t on the side of Big Corp Disney.”
Another shared, “Never even had a chance. Think he was really banking on trump being incarcerated bc that’s the only way he’d win the primary.”
It’s important to note these are just polls and are indicators of what could come to pass. Here’s a compilation of each state’s primary election dates for 2024.
