Disney fans and water park fans can rejoice, because one of Walt Disney World’s two water parks officially reopened yesterday! Typhoon Lagoon reopened on January 2 with Disney Guest favorites like the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool (which is “America’s largest outdoor wave pool”), Miss Adventure Falls (which is a crowd-pleasing “fast-paced family raft attraction”), the Crush ‘n’ Gusher water coaster, the Castaway Creek lazy river, and Humunga Kowabunga all ready to go.

The popular surf programs will also be back on January 7, and you can book lessons ahead of time! If you sign up for surf lessons, a certified surf instructor can teach you surfing basics (or something more in-depth if you have a higher skill level with surfing already). There are also private surf sessions that can be booked for a maximum of 25 people!

Unfortunately, colder weather has already caused Typhoon Lagoon to close down again (according to the Tweet below from Gotta Go Orlando). After just one day of being open again, colder temperatures drove the Disney water park to close for the day on January 3. Reopening is expected tomorrow, and lots of Disney Guests will have their fingers crossed for warmer weather! Opening a water park (or reopening one) in the wintertime is not ideal, but Typhoon Lagoon’s location in central Florida means that even a cold day at a Disney Park or water park is still relatively warm by other regions’ standards.

Disney fans and Typhoon Lagoon Guests will also be particularly eager to visit the water park now because the 50th-anniversary celebrations for Walt Disney World Resort mean that there are several new treats to look forward to when it comes to Typhoon Lagoon’s menus!

In honor of “the World’s Most Magical Celebration”, new menu items like Walt’s Chili Nachos (which include “house-fried tortillas, cheese, guacamole, shredded lettuce, tomato, onion, sour cream and jalapeño”), and a birthday cake soft-serve EARidescent Ice Dream Cone have debuted at the Snack Shack and at Happy Landings. Guests can also buy a Walt Disney World Popcorn Bucket or a 50th Anniversary Refillable Mug!

The Snack Shack also has two new DOLE Whip character cones that are inspired by the Disney princess Moana, which seems appropriate since 2021 marked Moana’s fifth anniversary. If you’d prefer a custom DOLE Whip cone, you can make your own flavor with mango, lime, raspberry or pineapple DOLE Whip (and adults can enhance their custom DOLE Whip with “tequila, coconut rum or dark rum)! The Snack Shack at Typhoon Tilly’s also has a special new cocktail called the “Habanero Lime Galley Shack Swirl” which is “a new signature cocktail balancing spicy habanero, sweet mango and tangy lime flavors”.

Walt Disney World Resort’s other famous water park, Blizzard Beach, is still closed for now. However, you can get plenty of kicks at Typhoon Lagoon through its water park rides or surf lessons, and you can also enjoy plenty of special 50th-anniversary delicacies in between swims! Are you excited about Typhoon Lagoon’s reopening, and are you already planning on buying some water park tickets (or are you going to wait until Blizzard Beach has reopened, or perhaps try a Disney Cruise Line cruise instead)?
