In our opinion, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters at Disneyland Resort is more than just a ride—it’s a religion. This intergalactic battle gives you the chance to level up from regular humans strolling through Southern California to certified Space Rangers, conquering the Evil Emperor Zurg and racking up more points than your friends in the process.
Well, at least theoretically.
This interactive shooting game in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland (known as Space Ranger Spin in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom) puts you in control, aiming at targets with your trusty laser cannon to earn points and rise through the ranks.
But reaching Galactic Hero status—AKA the top score—takes strategy, precision, and a few insider tips. Let’s break down everything you need to know to maximize your points, crush the competition, and rival Buzz Lightyear himself.
Prioritize Certain Shapes
In Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, targets vary in point value based on their shape and whether they’re lit or unlit. Circles are worth 100, squares 1,000, diamonds 5,000, and triangles 10,000 points. But here’s the secret: when a target is lit, its value skyrockets to 10x for the first person to hit it. Focus on those glowing targets to rack up massive points!
Just Keep Firing
Accuracy is overrated on Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters—if you’re having a tough time hitting your targets, just keep shooting! For every five missed shots, you’ll rack up an easy 100 points. Unleash a flurry of firepower and watch your score soar, even if your aim isn’t spot on.
Focus on Zurg
When Zurg enters the scene, he should be your top priority. The ultimate target in Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters offers a whopping 50,000 points! This elusive score can be found in a tiny, unmarked hole nestled in the center of Emperor Zurg’s chest armor, appearing in both his initial and final scenes.
As your ride vehicle enters the first room with the Zurg animatronic, direct your aim at the large green square on the bottom of his gun. This will cause Zurg to pivot toward the weapon that struck it. Once he does, switch your focus to that tiny hole in his chest and get shooting.
Find Hidden Targets
Keep an eye out for hidden diamond targets in the last tunnel before facing Zurg! This seemingly empty passage is packed with scoring opportunities. First, you’ll spot a diamond target on the right at eye level, followed by another one on the left, positioned a bit higher.
Just as you’re about to exit the tunnel, look up to find the final diamond target on the ceiling. Take aim and hit these gems multiple times for some serious points!
