After four people alleged that they “suffered severe injuries and incurred medical expenses” being stranded on “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” in Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal is facing a lawsuit from these guests.
While most of the time, we at Disney Fanatic enjoy bringing you stories of magical happenings and events at the Disney Parks, occasionally, we do bring news from outside the Disney bubble. And sometimes, it’s news that is not always quite so wondrous.
The reality is that even though theme parks (be those Disney Parks like Walt Disney World or Universal Parks like Universal Studios Florida in Universal Orlando Resort) are places of happiness and enjoyment, particularly for family vacations, there are things that can go awry.
Recently, four guests at Universal Studios Hollywood were left stranded on the “Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey” ride for over an hour. These four guests argued that they “sustained injuries because of this occurrence” and, as a result, will be suing Universal Studios Hollywood.
PEOPLE reported that Debra Biane. Gerald Scott Biane, Josh Taylorson, and Sami-Joh Goldberg claim that they were “left in a position which subjected them to severe injuries for an unreasonable and dangerous amount of time” when they rode the attraction on April 7, 2022.
Now any theme park fan is familiar with the reality that guests often take to lawsuits when they feel they sustained specific injuries that could have been avoided by actions of cast members, theme park employees, or the management of the parks.
Disney itself has faced multiple lawsuits from various guests over the years, many of which were dismissed in court. However, there were also enough that saw the light of day and made headlines.
When you’re a company as big, prolific with as many eyes on you as the Walt Disney Company, then these types of incidents are bound to happen.
However, this does beg the question of whether Disney is taking its fans for granted, considering they are not going to sue the company for being stuck on a ride.
And how do we know this? Because it happens almost every day.
We have repeatedly reported on stories of fans finding themselves stranded on rides like the Incredicoaster in Disney California Adventure Park in the Disneyland Resort or rides at the Central Florida Disney Resort.
So far, the lawsuits against Disney that we have heard of have to do with guests being injured in ways that are far more severe than just being stranded. Now, of course, it will be the court’s judgment to decide whether the four guests at Universal Studios Hollywood are exaggerating their claims or if they have a valid case
This said, the incident has certainly raised questions about whether Disney is taking its fans for granted in light of its constant breakdowns and frequent closures at parks like Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park, which results in guests losing out on the Disney experience.
