Halloween Horror Nights fans are accustomed to a predictable summer routine.
Rumors begin circulating, Universal starts making announcements, merchandise appears online and in stores, and excitement steadily builds toward opening night. For many guests, following the reveal season is almost as much fun as attending the event itself.
This year, however, the rollout has been moving at a noticeably slower pace.
Despite Halloween Horror Nights 2026 being less than three months away, Universal has revealed only two haunted houses, leaving fans eager for more information and searching for answers about what may be happening behind the scenes.

A Slow Start for Horror Nights 2026
Universal has already opened ticket sales for this year's event, including general admission, Universal Express Passes, R.I.P. Tours, and Orlando's Premium Scream Night offerings.
Yet the event lineup remains largely a mystery.
For comparison, fans typically expect a growing list of announcements throughout the summer as Universal begins promoting its biggest seasonal event. Instead, recent weeks have been unusually quiet.
The lack of announcements became a major topic of discussion after several anticipated reveal windows came and went without new information.
Murdy's Comment Sparks Discussion
One of the biggest talking points emerged from a recent interaction involving Universal Studios Hollywood Creative Director John Murdy.
When asked about announcements that failed to arrive this past week, Murdy responded:
“No, everything is a bit foggy at present.”
The comment immediately spread across Horror Nights social channels.
While Murdy is known for having fun with fans online, the timing of the response led many to speculate that something may have changed internally regarding the event's rollout schedule.
Whether the comment was intended as a tease or a genuine acknowledgment of shifting plans remains unclear.
Could Merchandise Be the Reason?
Another piece of the puzzle may have surfaced through the Horror Night Nightmares Discord community.
Insider Legacy suggested that merchandise-related issues could have contributed to delayed announcements this past week.
Universal frequently coordinates merchandise releases alongside major Horror Nights reveals. Announcing a haunted house while simultaneously releasing themed apparel and collectibles has become a common strategy.
If merchandise production or distribution encountered issues, it could explain why announcements may have been temporarily paused.
Of course, Universal has not officially addressed the speculation.

What Has Been Announced So Far?
At the moment, only two haunted houses have been confirmed.
Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control celebrates 35 years of Halloween Horror Nights by focusing on the iconic rivalry between Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow.
The second house, Sinners, is based on Ryan Coogler's vampire thriller and takes guests into Club Juke for a terrifying encounter with Smoke, Stack, and a host of bloodthirsty creatures.
Both houses have generated strong fan interest, but they leave plenty of room for additional announcements in the weeks ahead.
The Clock Is Ticking
Halloween Horror Nights begins August 28 at Universal Orlando Resort and September 3 at Universal Studios Hollywood, meaning Universal still has time to unveil the remainder of the lineup.
The company has successfully built anticipation through staggered announcements in the past, and there is little doubt that additional reveals are coming soon.
Still, the slower-than-usual pace has become one of the biggest stories surrounding Halloween Horror Nights 2026.
For now, fans are left watching social media, monitoring rumors, and waiting for Universal to resume what has become an unexpectedly quiet announcement season. Whether the delay is connected to merchandise, scheduling, or something else entirely, Horror Nights enthusiasts are clearly ready for the next reveal.
