If you have ever visited Disney Springs, you have probably seen a large blue hot air balloon rise into Disney World skies.
Officially named the Aerophile, this 8-minute experience allows to get a bird’s eye view of of . However, it is an experience that is subject to weather conditions–especially the wind.

Before the attraction is open to Guests, Cast Members specially trained in operating the balloon will test to see if wind conditions are suitable for flight. Sometimes it is a smooth, steady rise to altitude. Other times, not so much. But the wind does not always appear on-queue.
One such case occurred this past weekend. It was a beautiful clear day, and the Aerophile took off with Guests on board. Shortly thereafter, wind gusts picked up on Lake Buena Vista, causing the balloon to sway erratically. The video was caught by TikTok user @csteidinger, who was filming her 6-year-old’s flight from the ground.

The Aerophile is always attached to its safety tether–which also controls its ascent and descent. Employees in the balloon basket and on the ground would have gone right to work to get everybody back on the ground safely. Fortunately, the shears picked up while the craft was at a much lower altitude.

Custom-built for Disney by Paris-based company Aérophile S.A., the Aéro30 is filled with 210,000 cubic feet of helium. The balloon’s 19-foot-diameter basket holds up to 29 people, plus one Aérophile-certified pilot.
