Disney World Attractions Risk Government-Backed Shutdown This June

An urgent weather warning issued for Central Florida on Wednesday afternoon is putting Walt Disney World Resort guests on notice, and the conditions described could force outdoor attractions across all four theme parks offline.

The National Weather Service in Melbourne, Florida, issued a special weather statement for Orange and Osceola counties on June 24, covering the full Walt Disney World Resort area. The warning calls for moderately strong thunderstorms capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour and pea-sized hail, with the agency noting that “gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecure objects” and that “minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.”

The National Weather Service classified the storm's severity as “moderate” and its likelihood as “expected” — meaning radar data confirmed the system was on its way rather than simply possible. The warning was set to remain in effect until 2:30 p.m. EST on Wednesday.

Walt Disney World Resort guests currently at Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, or Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park should move indoors and stay there until the storm passes. Outdoor attractions are subject to temporary suspension during periods of high winds, lightning, or severe rain, and entertainment offerings scheduled for the afternoon could also be affected.

The My Disney Experience app provides real-time updates on attraction status. It is the fastest way to track which experiences are operating normally and which have been temporarily closed due to weather. Guests with questions about how conditions may be affecting a specific part of the park should flag down the nearest Disney cast member.
