Over the past few weeks, we have seen a good deal of activity on Disney+. The Sanderson Sisters returned for Hocus Pocus 2, and Tim Allen is about to reprise the role of Scott Calvin/Santa Claus in the upcoming Holiday Series The Santa Clauses. But, once again, we jump from Halloween to Christmas, but what about Thanksgiving?
It is not too far-fetched to say that Turkey Day has mostly been passed over by most studios, with the only two cinematic champions arguably being the Charlie Brown Special and the John Hughes movie Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.
We should have a Thanksgiving Franchise that makes us stop and get excited for this part of the year. Even if it is just a short with Mickey, Minnie, and all their pals. They say Disney is out of original ideas. How about something that can fill the gap between Halloween and Thanksgiving?
Maybe it could be a Mickey short that has them all gathering together at Mickey or Minnie’s house for the big day, and hilarity ensues in one way or another. Maybe Goofy accidentally stuffs Donald Duck in the turkey? Just a thought.
After all, Disney put Mickey Mouse and his friends in a short about the Chinese New Year. It only makes sense that they come back to observe this American holiday.
While I can’t say how successful a Thanksgiving Day special would be, it would definitely be something new that couldn’t be a negative impact on the current offerings on Disney+. But what do you think?
